Oh boy. 1. The Lord of the Rings. First and foremost. And it shall remain that way until the end of my days. Tolkien was a genius, and The Lord of the Rings is the greatest piece of fiction I have ever read. And in no particular order: The Book Thief. Lyrical, poetic, emotional, creative, truthful, wonderful. Markus Zusak is another magnificent author. Truly one of the greats. His Dark Materials. Philip Pullman is a god(ironic) or writing. He has masterful skills in writing characters and plots, but also making them come to life. The Da Vinci Code/Angels and Demons. Gotta love Dan Brown, the man is a genius, and everything is totally believable. Abarat. Clive Barker is another genius of writing. He astounds me with not only his writing, but his art as well. It's something to aspire to. I can't think of any others... I'm sure i'll think of some later. |

I too could go on for ages and ages, but I'll just name the ones directly of the top of my head, in no particular order. "The Lord of the Rings" (that goes without saying, really) Anything by Stephen King, esp. "The Dark Tower Series" "The Dragonlance Chronicles" (just the ones that are written by Weis & Hickman, of course) "Twilight" and its sequels, by Stephanie Meyer. And that was cheating really, because that encompasses a good...30 books, at least. |
