The Shannara series by Terry Brooks. That should give you new reading material for a long time. It's written as if it took place after Armageddon and a few people survived, bringing the world back to a lack of technology and science, but it's still Fantasy and not Sci-fi.

The Riftwar Saga by Raymond Feist. Another good fantasy novel with political troubles thrown in as well.

Mysterious Skin - Scott Heim (This involves child molestation, but the book is absolutely brilliant)

Brideshead Revisited - Evelyn Waugh

Dante's Inferno - Dante Alighieri

The Iliad - Homer

Suskind has a very peculiar writing style to the book and the protagonist is incredibly fascinating. Definitely one of, if not THE, best novels. Ever.
