Anybody love these classic mystery books? My sister and I loved these books, but some of the newer ones aren't as good as the older, hardback cover books. I have several favorites...and I need to check up on them soon

The Hardy Boys, I've barely read, but I've read the books where Nancy, Bess, George, Frank, Joe, and sometimes Ned are teamed up. I kinda prefer these books, because it's two of the greatest dectective teams combined into one.

Then the TV show...I've got a season at home, and I watched it. It was ok, but not as good as the books, of course.

What about you all?

I read Nancy Drew for a couple of years. I used to try to predict whodunit, which I found was fun, and there was interesting ideas in them, even if the quality wasn't brilliant.

Now I read murder mysteries...

I read those couple of years ago, when I had detective stories period. But hat period is gone and I don't think much of those books right now.

Before, I read Nancy Drew a lot - A LOT. Really. I read all the ones at the school library and the public library. But there's so many, you know, more than three hundred I suppose, so I've sort of drifted off from them. The new ones - which are paperback and are told from first person narrative, are slightly different. But I did some research, and guess what? Carolyn Keene isn't a real person - many different authors contributed to the series by writing under that name. Same for Hardy Boys, I think.

I did read Hardy Boys too, but not much. Not as much as Nancy Drew anyway. Nancy Drew files . . .

I did read the ones where they all teamed up - which was interesting. The two series are very much alike - the publishing companies are always the same, the styles are the same too, and the writing is in a way, similar. I thought that the two authors were married!

Anyway, I'm really glad somebody made a post about these two series - I'm afraid that they're losing popularity among the youth though.

Really? Different authors? I never would have guessed, because the writing style seems to me to be fairly fluent. (Though it's not brilliant so it wouldn't be too hard to achieve...) Lots of other series aged at that age group are written by different people, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Actually, not that I read them anymore, or have for a couple of years, but I'd say here they are reasonably popular. The library seems to keep on getting them in, anyway...

The library does keep getting them. But I don't know if many people are still into them.

About Carolyn Keene being a bunch of different authors collaborating together . . . well, it makes sense, because this series has been going on for about - what - seventy years or more? With books coming out every month, or sooner? If she had really been one single author, she would have had to work hard - continuing this for all these years, in consistent orders . . . I was told that she died, that she was still alive - she's not even a real person, so who can say? But Nancy Drew is a long series, in time periods as well as in the amount of books.

I didn't know how long the series had been around, but it is possible for authors to come out with a book a month when they are writing series. It's been done before...

I'd say if the library is getting them, they are being borrowed. The libraries were I live have a habit of discarding (selling to the public) books that aren't borrowed much, even if they are in good condition...

Yes, I know, but this one-book-a-month thing has been going on for decades - so it would really be amazing if the author was really just one person . . .

The local library where I live sells books too - twenty-five cents for a paperback, and seventy-five cents for a hardcover. A really good deal.

I've read all the Nancy Drew's several times! they were my favorite when I was younger. I still read them from time to time (actually, I just read one today).

By the end of 6th grade, I had read every single one in my elementary school library!
The quality is a little low, I must agree, but I love them none-the-less. Old clocks, and things like that, thee creativity! ^_^ I want to buy them and read them all again, it's been so long since I last read one!

Out of curiousity, has anyone played the Nancy Drew computer games? I collect them >=D [/font]

I read a whole lot of Nancy Drew in elementary school. She was great!

I like Hardy Boys are the best. I've read the new ones and I think they're great! Very funny.
I liked Nancy too, until she started getting all 'Save me Ned!' I found that annoying.
I play the Nacy Drew PC games too! I just got Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon and beat it with my brother. It had the Hardy's in it too! Joe is so weird. 'It's not like it's from Mark Twain'... Poor guy.

I loved the Nancy Drew series! I've now officially read all of the older ones. I had read all but one (The Invisible Intruder) in middle school, and that was the only one I could never get my hands on. But my aunt gave it to me for Christmas. So I finally finished.

As for the Hardy Boys, I read the first 10 or so...but then I just kind of stopped...I do remember liking them, though.

As much as I loved Nancy Drew, I'm still a Trixie Belden girl. She was always my favorite teen detective.
