Post subject:  The Stravaganza-series by Mary Hoffman

Has anyone read the Stravaganza books? There are so far 4 of them, the fourth book was released only about two months ago! These are absolutely one of the best books I've read =) I started with the first book two years ago (in finnish), then I read the rest of the books in english.

1) The City of Masks
2) The City of Stars
3) The City of Flowers
4) The City of Secrets

OK. So these books are fantasy :D and the basic idea is, that in each book, there is one young English person who has a talisman with which they can 'stravagate' to Talia (equivalent of Italy) 400 years back in time. They have to fall asleep holding their talisman, and then they are transported in time & place. =) and it has quite a lot of history in the books too. There is the Di Chimici family that rules most of Talia, except eg. Bellezza (= Venice), and I can't really tell much without spoiling, but all kinds of exciting twists and turns take place :D

The series starts with The City of Masks, and it tells about Lucien, who has cancer, and he gets this old book from his dad, and he finds out he can stravagate with it :) then he starts getting involved in many events in Talia, and he gets many friends and enemies.

Ok, it [i]might[/] sound a little lame when I'm trying to describe the series without spoiling anything, but it's really awesome!! If you're interested in reading fantasy books, adventure books, historical fiction etc. I'll bet you'd like it =)

P.S. The books have romance in them, too. ;)

Actually, I think I've read a couple of these. City of Masks for sure, and I think City of Stars. They're pretty good, I agree. I wouldn't class them as award-winning literature, but the premise is attention-gripping and they're admirably original. Now I want to go put the two I haven't read on hold at the library - I hadn't thought of this series in ages.
