I am a sucker for a good vampire story, but I'm havin a bit of trouble finding a good vampire book and I was hoping y'all could help me! I usually try to look for stories that maybe have a little mystery in them, or are a vampire romance without pages of sex scenes, or just a good old fashioned spooky vamp story. I've got Dracula, the Twilight series, and The Vampire Diaries series, but I'm really wanting to expand my collection a bit. Any suggestions?

Evernight by Claudia Grey is pretty good. It's YA fiction involving vampires and it's set in a boarding school. It wasn't super scary as far as I remember, but it was interesting and pretty well-written.

Thanks Ari, I'll check that one out! I heard about some books called The Vampire Academy, I think thats what they're called, anyone ever read those, and if so how were they?

If you want something a bit different try The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, it's vampire fiction mixed with travel writing and history. It's based on the idea that Dracula was a real person and that he is still alive and the characters have to trace him down, not the scariest, but there plenty of mystery.

This is a fun novel. Anno Dracula by Kim Newman. The premise is that Dracula marries Queen Victoria and takes over the British Empire. It's great because it's a huge crossover between most of the literary characters of that time and you've got cameos like Dr Jekyll and Professor Moriarty appearing.

I agree with Lembas about The Historian. I really enjoyed this book.

I've only really read one vampire book, and that's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith. I truly enjoyed it and I reccomend it to just about anyone.

The Sookie Stackhouse series, by Charlaine Harris— it's a series of nine (or is it 10+ now? I don't recall ATM.) books that literally melds the mystery genre with the genre that stories about vampires, werewolves, and the like fall under (though the main character herself isn't a vampire). The TV show True Blood is very loosely based on the novels in the series, if you've heard of that, and/or have seen it. The only thing is it's a bit on the adult side— the content isn't quite as mature as, say, Anne Rice's books (she's one of the most well-known writers of fiction involving vampires), but pretty close.
