Can the term "inappropriate' really be used to describe a book? It is in reality a 'judgement' of a book by a reader according to their personal tastes. A book may be 'inappropriate' to one reader but not to another.

Back on topic.... I'll never read the Ice & Fire books. I tried a few times, but always put it down. Glad a mini series was made of it.

Life of Pi - Yann Martel
I started reading it because I wanted to see the film but I haven't been able to finish it. It was OK, I just lost interest and was struggling with it. I am going to read it, eventually.

Catch-22 - Joseph Heller.
Could not follow it. I got about 50 pages in before I had to give up. I know the whole point of the book is the style that it's written in but I could not understand what was going on and it was stressing me out.

I've had a few that I could not read. Though partly it had to do with when I read them.
I started the Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin. But as I started reading, the series came out. I did the idiot thing of what ahead of what I read. And lost interest in reading the book. It took the interest of what was going to happen out of it (this is why I always read the book then watch the movie, but I broke my own rule.)

Another was Redwall. But again, it was when. I tried reading them my sophomore year of high school, but couldn't get into them. But from what I did read, if I had read them in middle school, they would have been a favorite series of mine.

One other one I couldn't finish... I don't remember the name. It was a young adult, high fantasy. But when it got 3 chapters in and the main girl is having her first period and freaks out this 30 year old guy... And then this mother figure sits and is trying to convince the girl it's a blessing not a curse and the writing style was uninteresting... I couldn't finish.

Finally one of them had to do with the physical book itself. I can't handle the smell of cigarette smoke. It makes me cough. I borrowed a book from the library (Assassins Apprentice by Robin Hobb) and liked it. Went to borrow and read the sequel and couldn't breath after the first chapter. It stank. I'm careful about what books I get from the library now...

I barely was able to finish Red Skies Under Red Seas by Scott Lynch. I really liked the 1st book of the series, Lies of Locke Lamora, but Red Skies was just painful. I wanted to like it, but the best thing about that book was when I read the last sentence and it was over. Now, I'm debating reading book 3, Republic of Thieves.

Yes! LoLL was amazing, and way more fun than I'd imagined beforehand. The second part was also interesting, but I kept picking up other books as well, while I'd read LoLL within a week. And I've started Republic of Thieves three times already, and I just can't get into the story.

Life of Pi for me too. I don't know why, the film is fantastic and I really cannot wait to experience it in book form. But in spite of that... nope.

I just finished Life of Pi, but I read it over six months.. Now I can't finish The Cloud Atlas.. It's not boring or anything like that, but I just can't finish it, I don't know why.

The Sillmarillion.
It held none of the magic that LotR or The Hobbit did. I read parts of it, but meh. I'm not interested.

Game of Thrones. But I'm going to try it again, since they are so popular. Perhaps I'll go to the library and check them out. I bought a sample for my Nook, and the sample has a few chapters but they don't go in order, which I think may have been the main reason why I didn't get into it, I couldn't understand what was going on! There were books I wish I wouldn't have finished, but had to for school, like "1984", and "Jubilee", and "Watership Down"...and anything Shakespeare.

I am not planning to read "Game of Thrones" like ever because I could not over come the nudity and sexuilty :/ .

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter it just did not work out for me, I have read till ch10 and just stopped; I might give it another try but I know that if it did not work out again, I'll just sell it.

I could not finish The Chronicles of Narnia. Once I start a book, I always think I should read it even if I do not like it but, nope, can't do it.

Even though I love the tv show, I cannot get through Game of Thrones. I have been reading it for 10 months now and I quit.

I read the Chronicles of Narnia eons ago and I never read any other C.S. Lewis books after it, so I guess it had a somewhat negative impact on me, although I can't definitively say why. I was drawn to it because of Lewis' connection with Tolkien as a member of the Inklings. Tolkien it definitely wasn't.

I've have read all of the Game of Thrones books with decreasing enjoyment and credulity: the first two I liked; the next two were okay; and the fifth one utterly tedious. #5 had too many bizarre and, frankly, uninteresting plots with too many peripheral characters being brought into the foreground, and too little of the main characters. I'm not sure what the next one will be like, but I will be a sucker and read it.

The only book I haven't been able to finish is a mystery that was so mind-numbing I can't even remember the title. I suppose I could look it up but ..... It's not often I don't finish one and I get really annoyed with myself when I do give up on one.
