I just love this book! It only took me a few days to read becuase I just couldn't put it down! Has anyone else read this book?

I'm reading it right now! Almost done with it; just about 40 pages left. Holden's a cool character I sort of identify with his frustration with the world, although I don't agree with a lot of his choices. In a way it reminds me of the movie Dead Poets Society, but probably just because of the fancy boys' prep school element.

I think that its easy to identify with Holden too! I've had so many different reactions when talking about this book. Some people love it (like me) and some are like 'I hated it! That Holden kid needs to get a life!' and stuff like that... Personally I think this book brilliantly portrays the confusion and frustration that teenagers often feel. As I was reading the book, I could have sworn that Holden was me at parts! lol

Yeah, same with me! The one thing is that sometimes Holden sounds completely grown up (for example, running around NYC by himself and getting hotel rooms) and then at other times he sound like he's 10 years old (like saying "Boy" all the time or "That just about killed me"). Heehee.

lol! I love Holden! My parents are always saying how I'm sort of like him because they say that sometimes I think about things too much like an adult for my age, then sometimes I act like I have the mentality of a 10 or 11 year old...lol

Read it, liked it, would have liked it better if I hadn't read it for English class.

I've never read A Catcher in the Rye, but my sister has read it. It's about a person who. . . okay, I don't know the story, but I have seen it. Is it really good? Would anybody recommend it?

Oh yes, 'tis very good...I'd definitely recommend it. It's especially a good read if you identify with characters who are kind of lost and sort of come of age during the story.

I've skimmed the book - it seems fairly direct and simple to understand (different from Shakespeare, which I tried reading but you won't want to know the details) and most likely I'll have to read the book in school next year, that's what I found out. Oh noooo! I mean - ahem - uh, that's great!

I don't like Catcher in the Rye either. I've read it 3 or 4 times...kept hoping I'd grow to like it I guess...never happened.

I loved The Catcher in the Rye. Holden is probably one of the most relatable characters in the history of literature. Almost everyone can identify with him about at least something.

He was so lost, and I dunno... I thought that the ending, at the carousel and stuff was really powerful. That something like that could be such a deciding moment in your life. Or something.

This was my second favorite book that we read in English this year... well, no, I don't know, I liked this and To Kill a Mockingbird about the same, but for different reasons.
