Has anyone read/seen Arthur Miller's The Crucible? We just finished reading it in my English class, and watched the movie. I found it very intrigueing and thought-provoking. I'll admit I liked the ending of the movie a little bit more than the ending of the play, because it was slightly extended. It was so powerful though! I just love love love this story. Its a very short read, and goes very quickly because its in play format, so if you haven't read it, you should go get it at the library. It only takes an hour or two to read. Anyways, does anyone have any thoughts on the book? Did you think Abigail truely did believe what she was saying was the truth towards the end of the story? |

I read it last year in my American Lit class. That was my favorite book we read besides The Great Gatsby which I loved as well. I thought the book was very interestering yet thought provoking as you said.. it made me think about false accusations and how much someone could persuade someone else. I truly do think Abigail was starting to believe that what she said was true in some part. |

I havn't read it but I've seen a production of it and that was really amazing. Lots of things to think about in it and a lot of links with Good Night and Good Luck that I just saw last weekend - you have been told it's really about McCarthyism havn't you? I'm not sure about Abigail as it's was a whole ago that I saw it and I can't remember what I thought about that at the time. |

Mwa ha ha ha ha! The Crucible was okay. We had to read it in my Junior english class. I got to play Tituba. Mwa ha ha ha. That was awesome. We saw the movie. I think it's an okay story, really interesting. But the whole back story and McCarthyism is a lot more interesting. Books and stories like these always make me angry...so I try to avoid them, for everyone else's sake.  Ha ha ha. It's really good though! I really enjoyed it. Mwa ha ha ha!

ohh I read that last year for english lit, i had to write an essay on it. i thought it was great and the film is good to. i prefer how it starts in the film to how it starts in the book. (i got to be abigail when we read it in class!) and i've actually found some pretty intresting stuff on the net about the real salem witch trials. i can't remember the web address but if i do i'll post it here. its really cool to know that Abigail etc. were actually real people. |

I'm not sure about Abigail as it's was a whole ago that I saw it and I can't remember what I thought about that at the time. Yeah, it is about McCarthyism. Arthur Miller was one of the Hollywood people that was interrogated by McCarthy, and he refused to give names of his friends to the overly-suspicious government, and he was thrown in prison for awhile. I've heard Good Night and Good Luck is really excellent. Sounds like a good history nerd movie

Oh I didn't know that he was imprisoned though I could have guessed that he would have been questioned. Yes Goodnight and Good Luck is excellent and you should really try and see it if you're interested in that time. I found it quite hard to persuade people to go with me though, my description of it to my sister that it was a black and white film about politics didn't really make her that keen 
Anyway the version of the Crucible that I saw was an amateur production with people forgetting lines and lots of people I knew in it but that didn't stop it being incredibly moving which I think shows the power of the play. |

I have the book which I've only gone halfway through the book but I have seen the play. I loved it, and I thought it was really good, but I never quite gotten to reading the book again. |

Yes, I believe he was imprisoned, but only for a few months (someone please correct me if I am just making this up...very tired). I really want to see it on stage! Its just so good. I thought the ending of the movie version was so incredibly moving and well-done. |

yeah i think he was imprisioned. i have no clue how long for though |
