I've been here for nine+ years and haven't seen or posted in this fine thread???? Well. Here goes....
- Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
- Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
- The Black Company by Glen Cook (I like the series)
- All Quiet On The Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
- The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler
- The Willing Flesh by Willi Heinrich
- Dune by Frank Herbert
- Kings Go Forth by Joe David Brown
- Elric ~ The Stealer of Souls by Michael Morecock (Elric is a decent book series)
- Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson (a good if sometimes convoluted book series)
And an honourable mention to The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury.

I made the effort to scroll back through the previous pages here (which is where I found the threads I commented about off-the-cuff), but I didn’t really find a favorite authors thread. Besides J.R.R. Tolkien and The Lord of The Rings, I find it difficult to name books in any ranking (I’m extremely skeptical about rankings as they are proliferating on TV and in the press, anyway). Besides which, fiction is a small minority in our library. So I’ll go by fiction authors whose works I have enjoyed.
1. JRRT (LoTR) Douglas Adams Arthur C. Clarke Paul C. Doherty (penname Paul Harding in Germany) Jack London Edgar Allan Poe Thomas Mann Salman Rushdie Akif Pirinçci Heinrich Böll Karl May
