Post subject:  Flute and piano question

Does anyone know what the difference is between sheet music for the flute and piano sheet music? I'm trying to get some flute music, and I'm not sure if I can use my piano music or not. :confuzzled:

It's difficult to play sometimes, but generally there is one line that the flute ca n play easily. it just needs to be raised an octave. easy enough to do. almost half of my sheet music is actually piano.

sam's right - you can usually just play the melody line from the piano music. it's a bit of a pain though because piano music takes up more room because of having the notation for both treble and bass clef, so while flute music may only be one side of paper piano music will often be three or four, which obviously means trying to turn the pages while playing. not easy, believe me.

it is often necessary to play an octave higher than written, as the piano music is often too low for the flute, but if the piece is in the flute's range i'd play it as written, even if it does mean playing at the lower end of the flute's range - personally, i love the lower register of the flute, but unfortunately it is much ignored.

I agree. The page flip thing bothers me too!

A trick with that is if you copy the pages then cut and paste all of the melody lines onto a page. It's long and tedious...I've only done it once and that was You Raise Me Up for a school solo...took me like an hour to do. :-D

You're welcome :) I'm hopelessly addicted to that place, I could practically live there :teehee: I've purchased all three official LotR sheet music books there as well as the official sheet music books for King Arthur, Enya (Paint the Sky with Stars + A Day Without Rain), Anne of Green Gables, The Cider House Rules and tons more :D
