Fweeeeee! My lifetime love, R.E.M!

Anyone else a fan, or am I the only one? :teehee:

My top...*Thinks for a realistic number*...10, in no particular order, are...

:: Nightswimming
:: At My Most Beautiful
:: Imitation of Life
:: Everybody Hurts
:: Daysleeper
:: The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight
:: Bad Day
:: Losing My Religion
:: New Orleans Instrumental No. 1 [Instrumental]
:: The Great Beyond

I could go on forever. :P

Personally, I think Stipe has a great voice, and with Mills and Buck (and Berry who was with them before) they make up a fabulous set of musicians. I've been listening to their music since I was born. Obviously I can only remember back to when I was about 3, dancing madly around the house to them, but still. :lol:

So...over to you guys...

I've only really heard one of their songs - Man On The Moon - which I really, really like. It's the only proper song of theirs I have. The only other one is Furry Happy Monsters which they performed with the Sesame Street gang. :lol: I love that one as well.

I like them... they have been on the soundtrack of my life too many times for me not to like them!

Your list is pretty much their Greatest Hits, but I like so many other of their songs...
-- Orange Crush - because it's such a different R.E.M. song.
-- Leave, the song from A Life Less Ordinary, but it's gotta be the movie version. I love the intro of that song!!
-- Walk Unafraid and Lotus... in general I have a problem with UP, it's too dark and depressive in my opinion, but I forced myself to listen to it for a week to give it a chance, and afterwards I have learned to like at least those two songs!

Hmm.. I have more... but this is a start! :angel:

There's a movie version? I saw the film and IMMEDIATELY had to have the song, but I have the New Adventures in Hi-Fi version. Hmm...

My top 14 (:P):
Leave
It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
Finest Worksong
Everybody Hurts
Shiny Happy People
Losing My Religion
Orange Crush
What's the Frequency, Kenneth?
Superman
Stand
Bad Day
Man On the Moon
Half a World Away
Nightswimming

*Sings* "SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE HOLDING HANDS!"

i absolutely adore this band. stipe has such a distinct, characterful (is that a word?) voice, and you have to love the randomness of some of their lyrics. i mean, no one else could write the line "i'm a cactus trying to be a canoe".

my favourite songs are probably:
- everybody hurts
- nightswimming
- shiny happy people
- at my most beautiful
- sweetness follows
- losing my religion
- final straw

I love them as well. I fell I love with them a long time ago after hearing Everybody Hurts. The rest is history. They're a great band. My favorites have all been mentioned already. I really like his voice. It's different. there aren't fifty other singers who sound exactly the same. So yes. R.E.M. = much love. :yes:

Umm, yeah, I guess there are two versions. At least I was talking to my friend about that song, and when she played it for me it was slightly different, and she's got the album, so... :-)

Uhh so many people like Everybody Hurts.. and I admit that was one of the songs that got me hooked on R.E.M, but now... it's too depressing for my mood right now... but I'll get back to listen to it again some time... it's like a circle... R.E.M has so much different music, but I can usually listen to Automatic for the People anytime!
I really like Bang and Blame... a song that hasn't been mentioned! :-)

i don't find everybody hurts depressing at all. i actually find it really upliting. the whole point is that getting hurt is just part of life - it happens to everyone and things don't stay that way so you shouldn't let it get you down. that's how i always read it anyway.

^I'd agree.

Eä: I need to find that version now.

Bang and Blame rocks. :yes:

Well.. but... but.. right, Everybody Hurts is about life and it is a good song, but after having listened so much to it and for so many years, I need sort of a break from it, just a small one. His voice sounds so hauntingly suffering when he sings the refrain... but it is still a good song and the lyrics very much filled with hope (I actually just listened to it again when writing this post).

'Cause everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no. Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

Usually, I don't listen much to lyrics... I listen to the song, melody and the way it is performed, and then I might start listening more to the actual words and meanings. But lyrics alone will never get me hooked on a song! :angel:

:yes: And Tongue, and Strange Currencies, and Sad Professor, and Find The River, and You're in the Air... :goofup: I'll stop now.

I personally, have to be in the mood to listen to Everybody Hurts. It's beautiful and I adore it, partly because of the link it has with my mum when she was going through her phases of depression. But it's one of those ones that will never, in my opinion, lose it's quality. Like 95% of R.E.M actually... :lol:

Well, I'm a bad person, I can only name one REM song, and I don't think I've heard any others. 'Losing My Religion' is that song, and I think it is great. In fact, when i lloked at the first post, I had to go and find it and listen to it. SO I did :P It took me a while to find somewhere that could play the whole song at decent quality, and I'm listening to it now :D

I heard Losing My Religion last night. It was being performed in a sort of play/play/speech performance I went to. The topic was God and Atheism and a girl was singing it most beautifully in a slow and very simple tune. So great! :angel:

I only have one of their CDs and I don't listen to them that often, but I think they're a really great band. Losing My Religion is one of my favorite songs of all time. I first heard it on Rockstar: Supernova and I've listened to a million different versions ever since.
