I saw Half Nelson yesterday, and some of the music in it caught my attention. So I looked it up and found the Canadian indie rock group: Broken Social Scene! I <3 them, and I've only begun to listen to their stuff. Anyone else a fan?

Right now my fave song is Stars & Sons.

My friend really likes them, and I liked them when she played them for me. They're good. Very different. Just the kind of music she would listen to. Canadian indie bands are her specialty. :P She only played me a few of their songs, and out of those the only title I remember is Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl, which is a good song. But yes. I like them. They're good. Yay!?

I haven't heard of them (at least not that I know of). Since you say 'indie rock'... and Canadian, would they in any way be comparable to the sound of Arcade Fire? Just to give me an idea of the band... :-)

To answer your question Ea, I'd say yes. They do have similar sounds. Arcade Fire was another band that friend introduced me to. The difference for me is that I like Broken Social Scene, but I'm not overly fond of Arcade Fire. But both of them have really different effects and instruments behind their music. If you like Arcade Fire, you'd probably like Broken Social Scene.

The bigger question is:

Would the tim4x like them?

Do tell me. :P

^You'd probably loathe them. But check them out if you feel the need.

Hmm... I like Arcade Fire though. We'll see. Once I can tear myself away from the guilty pleasure that is McFly. :P

Starlight: I like your friend's taste :P Ooo, yes, Anthems of a Seventeen Year Old Girl is an excellent song!

Ea: Yes, I'd say they were comparable to Arcade Fire, as Starlight said. I think that the style that they perform in and the feel of the music is very similar - but in lots of ways they're way different. For example, lyrically Broken Social Scene is more...uh, nitty gritty? I can't think of a better term :P

I love how they use so many different vocalists. It really makes each individual song stand out. Plus, they use some my fave Canadian artists - like Emily Haines from Metric, and Feist.

I find it hilarious that when they perform there are about 10 people on stage :teehee:

Good.. for the different sound... I'm not overly fond of Arcade Fire either... They sound too... suffering!!! But all the critics seem to think they are the best that had happened to the music scene in years.... I do like the idea behind Arcade Fire.... a musical collective, nice!! :P
