What do you think makes a good song? I think a good song consists of creative/artistic lyrics, a catchy tune, and well-played music.

Good artists and well-played song... also lyrics that make you think are my favourites when it comes to that

-Good melody
-Good artists, with instruments and harmonies, etc... that complement each other.
-Good lyrics
-Good rhythm
That's all I can think of.

For me good lyrics are very important. If I don't like the lyrics I usually don't like the song either (unless it's a party song). Good artists are very important and rhythm also is very important to me. A catchy tune would be good as well.

Hmm good question. I guess for me a good song is something that makes me feel better. It doesn't have to have amazing lyrics and the music doesn't have to be complex, just something I can listen to and get away from everything that's bothering me.

Hmmm.... hard one. A lot of things. For me it's mainly:
-Talented musicians and talented vocalists
-Good melody
-Good lyrics (usually ones I relate too)
-Like others have said, having emotion behind the song, unless I'm in the mood for something fun instead of meaningful
-Easy-to-learn lyrics
And probably a billion other things I can't think of right now.

Hmm...
- Good tune
- Good lyrics that take some thinking to figure out or lyrics that I can relate to
- Good voice (and I really like a voice that shows emotion in his/her voice)

For me, I like a song that has really meaningful/inspirational lyrics, or lyrics that I can relate to. Any song with a really good guitar part (electric or acoustic) really gets me excited. And I HAVE to like the voice of the person singing it - really nasal voices like The Fray are like nails on a chalkboard for me.

^That's why I don't like Nickelback. His voice gets annoying after a while. It's really raspy. =/ I don't like alternative bands like Fall Out Boy, Panic, Cute, etc. either because their voices aren't deep at all. IMHO.

Yeah, I've noticed that. But I've only heard one Nickelback song, "Far Away", and I like that one enough that I can ignore his voice. But if I were forced to listen to Nickelback for a longlonglong time (or Switchfoot) then I'd probably go insane.

It's all about the melody for me. Lyrics aren't important. If they have an awesome message that's excellent but the lyrics don't make the song for me. There are tons of songs with excellent melodies but crappy lyrics that I still find awesome. So yeah, a good song needs to have an awesome melody or I won't listen to it

This might sound a bit crazy to some but for me the main thing is the lyrics. I think that being able to relate to the lyrics of a song is always a great thing. If I can't relate to them then I want to be able to easily think of somebody else who could realte to them...especialy fictional characters. I really enjoy writing fanfiction and/or poems while listening to music. Another thing that I Really enjoy doing is trying to compile lists of songs that I think go with certain fictional character(s) couple(s) for the use of my writting (for my and my friends entertainment only of course). So as a person who enjoys putting writings to music I think of the lyrics as the most important thing. Then I would have to say that the melody of the song has to match the emtion of what the lyrics are trying to get across. If it is a very sad song and it's just suposed to flat out give you time to feel depressed then I do not want to hear an up beat melody/tune and vice versa. Then of course the band/group/singer(s) have to be able to play the instruments that they are playing and be able to carry a tune with a good voice (even if the do edit most...if not all of the singer(s) voice(s) in this day in age). Now if we were to talk about dance songs then I would totally not care about the tune or even the lyrics nearly as much. If we are suposed to dance around while it being played...then they might as well have some fun with it too. lol Hmmm...yeah I think that that about covers it for me. lol

I guess lyrics just have little meaning to me because I've been used to listening to songs in foreign languages since I was a kid. Many of my all-time favorite songs are sung in languages like Italian, Hebrew, French, German, Albanian, Turkish, Yugoslavian, Russian and Finnish. I have no idea what they're singing about but true music needs no words to get the message across
A song without lyrics is still music whereas a lyric without melody is not really music

^But even if a song has a good tune, I don't like it if the lyrics are "My girlfriend broke up with me last Saturday. I'm sad. I want to kill someone. You broke my heart. etc." vs. "You wait in the palid slivered sky, come into the pantheon." You have to think about the song a lot more, and when you know what the theme of the song is, you begin to understand and the actual tune/music part of it gets better. For me, anyway. It becomes much more meaningful, I guess.

I usually like a male lead vocalist like the Fray, etc.
