Sadly, I've only been to two Christian concerts. :( The first was Avalon with Mark Shultz and Across the Sky. I'm not really a Mark Shultz fan, but I LOVE Avalon, and didn't know anything about Across the Sky, but they were awesome at the concert! The second one I went to was just FFH. It was really neat, but I think I liked the first one better. :)

ya, hardly anyone good (or just anyone at all) comes here to Spokane, so i've only been to a total of 4 concerts. they are so expensive anyways. But i make it a point to go to my fav bands, which is only maybe once a year. o well.

Our concert flow used to be pretty thin in the Denver area, but last year we got a new Christian radio station geared for younger people, so we've had a steady stream over the past several months. I can't even go to all the concerts I want to. Relient K and MxPx are playing in a couple weeks, but I have no money! I need to get a job just so I can go to concerts and buy band merch.

P.O.D. is a crossover band. Their first album was pretty good, and Christian, but since then they are not Christian. THe lyrics might be clean, but they have no Christian message to them. Although they are not 'Christian' they would still be a good alternative to things like Metallica, and the like.

Our youth group is going to start a band. We will be more of a rock/pop kind of band, or something, but it will be pretty sweet! We will tour the northwestern churches when we get some good skills.

Yes, they are a crossover band, but just because they had mainstream success doesn't mean they are no longer a Christian band. Some lyrics from their second album, Satellite:

I'm not sure how you're saying that there's no Biblical message there...

Some of their songs may not mention God directly, but they allude to Him.

If you read the lyrics on satilite, many of their songs have a christian message. Youth Of A Nation, is aboutteen murders adn suicide(Not really chritian but kinda) Alive, HECH YA,

Even so, the majority of their songs now do not have Christian lyrics, though they are clean and may promote good values.
Now I know more about P.O.D. than when I first mentioned them, I would not discourage anyone from listening to them. I just think that the best bands for anyone to listen to are those that put Christ first in their lives, as it reflects in their music.

(Idaho 4-H Guy: I hope you don't feel like I am attacking you, because I'm not... just arguing my point :P I harbor no ill feelings towards you)

Well, even though P.O.D. may not mention God/Jesus by name in every song, they allude to Him in almost every song (I do not claim to have read the lyrics to every song).

Also, there are several Christian music artists out there who praise God without using words. Michael W Smith has several instrumental-only songs, and a local guy I know, Trace Bundy, plays some amazing acoustic guitar. I guess what I'm saying is, there are more ways to worship God through music than just by saying His name in the song. --What matters is the heart the artist puts into it. Someone could easily write and record a song that "praises God" but do it without sincerity towards God... then it is just an empty song written for people rather than God. Sadly, this happens a lot.

Oh, I couldn't put it better Bellethiel. It's saddest when the artists start out with sincerity, but slowly move away from God.

I think it's sad too when a chirstain artist or band turns mainstream. They still might be christians, but its just kind of dissapointing too see them catering to the secular world. Also, I don't really have a problem with my friends or myself listening to non-christain music, as long as its clean. My rule is what i'd watch in a movie, i'll listen to in music. I mean, if you watch a love story movie, why can't you listen to it too? (as long as its clean). This is just a personal opinion, nobody has to agree with me! :)
But mostly, I listen to christain music because it is encouraging and i don't have to worry about bad lyrics and all that. Sorry if this is off the subject, but i just wanted to post it :)

That's a good way to do it. My ultimate favourite bands are Eden's Bridge and Iona. They are great Christian/contemporary celtic. I like it when Christian bands are a little more 'ambiguous'. I mean, it's great to mention the name of God or Jesus in a song, but I like it when the lyrics are poetic and you have to really think about who they're singing about. It makes you get into the words a lot more, plus it's just a creative way of singing about God without actually saying his name. That's my preference.

Hmm, I agree with a lot of what you're saying vikingmaiden. I may have to check out the bands you mentioned... I love celtic :) You should check out Newcomers Home www.newcomershome.com. They sing acoustic/folksy type music with a little bit of celtic mixed in. If you've ever heard of the Irish story/poem (not sure which) "Wind that Shakes the Barley," they did their own version of it called "Wind that Shakes the Corn" (they are from Colorado, and we don't have much barley here... but lots of corn) complete with Irish instruments. The lead singer, although from here, has a wonderfully Celtic sound to her voice.

Anyways, I've come to the point that I don't pay as much attention to the "Christian" music labels. There are plenty of bands out there (such as Newcomers Home) that while they are Christians and have Christian themes to their songs, are not signed to a Christian label, or market themselves as a Christian band. Unfortunately, many Christian bands/singers sell out and water down their lyrics when they go mainstream, but not all.

I love Joy Williams song 'We'. They play it on the Christian radio station in my area all the time. I recently bought her cd Genesis just to get that song.
