Post subject:  Top 10 favourite soundtracks

So, there might be another topic like this, but I'm too lazy to go back searching for it, and if there is one like it, it's not been seen recently. ^_^

So, the question. What are your top ten favourite soundtracks?

1. Gladiator -- the diversity of this soundtrack is what makes me love it so much. While retaining a certain style, it ranges from dramatic music that gets my blood pumping a lot faster to parts that definitely put me in a melancholy mood for a while. I love this soundtrack. ^_^

2. Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End -- This soundtrack, as well, has a very diverse range, but instead of heartstring-pulling melancholy songs, it ranges into soaring themes for the 'romantic' parts. I love music with leitmotifs--AWE provides them aplenty.

3. Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest -- I much like this soundtrack, especially with all of the cello parts in it. "The Kraken" is such an awesome song.

4. Batman Begins -- Amazing scores. It all works together to give am much darker feeling to Nolan's Batman, and completely eradicates the horror that was all previous adaptions of Batman. ^_^ It's got some very moving slow songs. It also has some awesome dramatic sequences, with, again, a lot of cello involved.

5. The Last Samurai -- A very evocative soundtrack. One that's lacking in leitmotifs, but provides soaring bits that capture one's emotions quite effectively on a regular basis. Merged with the simple "Japan" theme, it's definitely earned it's presence on my top-10 list.

6. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith -- How do I say it? It's the compilation of all of the best parts of Star Wars along with new themes. It's amazing, in short.

7. Kingdom of Heaven -- w00t for leitmotifs! KoH has a lot of them. Whatever the movie itself was lacking, the soundtrack makes up for it.

8. The Village -- In short, I love the violins in this soundtrack.

9. 3:10 to Yuma -- I don't have this soundtrack, and I've only seen the movie once, but I've heard the songs on YouTube, and the guitar has captured my heart. ^_^ Or rather, less eloquently, it's just another awesome soundtrack.

10. Superman Returns -- Many cool themes in this one. It's got some that weren't in the original movie, which is why I have this one instead of the original.

All 3 LOTR Soundtracks, of course. And I like the Musical Scores in the Pirates Of The Caribbean and Spider-Man movies. And The Chonicles of Narnia.

I think that adds up to about 10 or 11.

ONLY 10?! I have to choose only 10?!?! ARRGGHHH!!!

OK the only way I can do this is by counting trilogy films as one soundtrack. Ahh this is driving me crazy!

In no particular order:
  • The Lord of the Rings [Howard Shore] - What can I say? Probably the most epic score every composed. Howard captured the very essence of Middle-Earth in every single note. A masterpiece! I'd have to name every single song here that stands out for me, haha.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean [Klaus Badelt/Hans Zimmer] - Extremely epic, adventurous, powerful and happy. "The Medallion Calls", "The Black Pearl", "Davy Jones" and "What Shall We Die For" stand out the most for me.
  • The Da Vinci Code [Hans Zimmer] - The score goes to the very core of your heart and soul and you feel like soaring every time you here it. A pure divine soundtrack for a divine story. I get chills just thinking about the music. "Chevaliers De Sangreal" stands out the most. Regardless of how you feel about this controversial story, you are seriously depriving yourself of the most glorious piece of orchestral music ever composed if you don't give "Chevaliers De Sangreal" a listen!
  • King Arthur [Hans Zimmer] - Hans Zimmer has done it again. This entire soundtrack is a masterpiece. It's huge, it's epic, it's majestic. It's simply breathtaking. "Woad To Ruin", "All Of Them" and "Tell Me Now" stand out the most.
  • The Piano [Michael Nyman] - Not everyone likes (or gets) the film. I do though. But regardless of how you feel about the film, the soundtrack is so hauntingly beautiful that it takes you to another world. "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" and "The Promise" stand out the most.
  • The Secret Garden [Zbigniew Preisner] - This soundtrack got me into movie scores in the first place. It's haunting, it's wondrous, it's beautiful and almost fairy-tale-like. "First Time Outside", "Shows Dickon Garden", "Taking Colin To The Garden", "Colin Opens His Eyes" and "Winter Light" stand out the most.
  • The 13th Warrior [Jerry Goldsmith] - It's epic, powerful and extremely Viking-like - just like the film itself. GREAT memorable theme! "The Great Hall", "The Sword Maker" and "Valhalla - Viking Victory" stand out the most.
  • Les Misérables [Basil Poledouris] - The 1998 film version. The score is unbelievably beautiful. It's heartbreaking, heartwarming and haunting all at the same time. I can't explain it, you just have to listen to it! "Caring For Fantine", "Marius And Cosette", "Theme From Les Misérables" and "Valjean Saves Marius" stand out the most.
  • Resan Till Melonia [Björn Isfält] - The main theme of this score can best be described as a child seeing the wonders of the world for the first time. That everlasting bliss of wonder, awe, longing and pure joy. It's magnificent. Simply magnificent. "Ariel In Över Melonia", "Ouvertyr" and "Längtan Till Melonia" stand out the most.
  • Juloratoriet [Stefan Nilsson] - It's as if all the beauty, wonder, enchantment, melancholy, and sadness of this world exist in one single theme. So hauntingly beautiful it hurts. "Arons Dröm" stands out the most.

Ahh I could have listed at least 100 soundtracks more!
