YouTube is asking classical musicians to audition for the first ever YouTube Symphony Orchestra. Composer Tan Dun (who wrote the Oscar-winning music for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) has written the Internet Symphony No. 1, and the winners of the auditions will be flown into New York City to play it in Carnegie Hall. YouTube is also asking classical musicians to submit a video of themselves playing their instrument's part of the Internet Symphony so they can put together the videos and (theoretically) have the whole world playing the symphony together via video.

Isn't that a neat idea? I don't think I'm good enough to even try to audition to go to Carnegie Hall, but I might give Internet Symphony video thing a shot.

I saw that yesterday- it is cool! I was thinking about submitting a vid, but the symphony doesn't have a piano part. Besides, I haven't practiced very steadily for a couple of years now.

You should send in the vids, Taur! What instrument do you play?

That's a shame. :(

I play bassoon. The part looks fun, but it seems like it's going to be difficult to stay in tempo with a virtual orchestra when there's only a silent video of a conductor to guide you!

It's a very neat idea. I can't wait to see the finished product.
