What's in your CD/LP collection? I don't count downloaded albums but only the actual physical albums I own, but if you want to include that, feel free. I would be here all day though as I have hundreds upon hundreds of downloaded albums. And I'm not asking what's in your parents/brothers/sisters' collection - I'm asking what's in YOURS! I'd be here for the whole week were I to list my family's LP and CD collection. I've been buying LPs since the '80s and CDs since 1990 so there will be many weird titles in here, hehe. It does, nonetheless, reflect my entire life as a music enthusiast, from child to adult, so naturally acts like the Spice Girls will have found their way into my collection. I don't have many CD's either. Lack of money is one thing and the other was I was more of a vinyl fan and really fought against buying cd's especially to replace my albums on record. |

Most of the CDs on my list, I bought back in the early/mid '90s when I was young, carefree and could spend my monthly allowance on pleasures only. Back then I bought CDs every month. Nowadays I'm happy if I can even afford one or two CDs a year. I was a skeptic of CDs when the format was new. To me, vinyls were the real records. CDs felt temporary and secondary. I caved in though when I realized that the sound quality was MUCH higher on CDs than on LPs or cassettes. And these days, I'm thankful for the CD since you can transfer it digitally by putting into the computer and thus making it available everywhere. |

^ LOL same. When I was still living at home the biggest chunk of pocket money (and when I was older wages) got put on buying records. There was a great store back in the day that you could buy new vinyl cheap and older vinyl even cheaper. CD quality is better, but for me nothing beats listening to a vinyl album. It was so much more substantial than a wee CD and I loved the feel of it in my hands....*sigh* I miss the vinyl days.

At least plenty of bands (within the Metal genre especially) release their new albums on vinyl still, which is great. Nothing beats the huge detailed cover artworks on vinyls or the sound of a spinning record. My parents bought a new stereo system a few years ago that has a vinyl unit so they can once again play all their hundreds of vinyl records (their old stereo broke back in the '90s). I take the opportunity to do the same whenever I visit them. |

"vinyl unit" We called them 'turntables' back in the day.  And there is a 'naturalness' to the analog sound of an LP (short for a Long Play record, as opposed to the '45' single) played on a decent stereo with decent speakers or headphones.
I have tons of LPs which I either bought, inherited, or took off peoples hands when they were 'throwing them out' in the 80's for the meaner, cleaner CD. They're stored away at my dad's, so if I want to keep them, I need to go get them. I had a fair load of CDs too, but got rid of many of them because of space limitation and I never listened to most of them anyway. I'll have to work up a list of the ones I have now and post it. |
