Oooh! please don't call U2 Oldies - that makes me feel totally old!

I was a fan of Abba when they were totally unfashionable, and my all time favourite song is Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty - I just love the sax on it!

I can take or leave the Beatles, but Eleanor Rigby is another of my favourite songs.

*Clears throat*

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music’s high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You’re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen!!!!!!

I love oldies! :guitar: :-D

Some fovorite bands:

The Beatles, REO Speedwagon, Boston, Journey, Fleetwood Mac (to some extent, my mom doesn't like them, so I never hear much of them on the radio :grr:), The Eagles, The Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet, Simon and Garfunkle, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith... that's about all I can think of right now.

*starts singing*

Heard it from a friend who
Heard it from a friend who
Heard it from another you been messin' around
They say you got a boy friend
You're out late every weekend
They're talkin' about you and it's bringin' me down

But I know the neighborhood
And talk is cheap when the story is good
And the tales grow taller on down the line...

Queen, David Bowie, INXS, Pink Floyd, Marvin Gaye, Billy Idol, Blondie, Econoline Crush. I know that's a lot of 80s stuff but I wasn't born then so I consider them oldies :)

I draw the line at calling U2 oldies though. I never would have thought they'd be called that considering they just came out with a new CD

I think it's all down to how you define the word 'oldies'. For me any band that has lasted longer than say 15-20 years is considered old or veteran as I prefer. Bands such as Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Slayer and Anthrax are all veterans of the Metal genre and are still producing music and touring.
Having a new cd out doesn't negate how long a band has been together.

But as I say, it's all in how you, yourself define the term. It's all a generational thing also. Someone born in the 80's would have a different idea of oldies than say someone born in the 90's. It's all a matter of opinion and perspective.

Yeah, true, but I still think of oldies as 70s music and older, nothing newer. At least that's how all the oldies stations I know of define "oldie." I used to listen to nothing BUT oldies when I was really young, but although I've grown into more contemporary stuff, I still like the Eagles, some Beatles, most Simon & Garfunkel, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Linda Ronstadt, and (if you consider them oldies) ABBA.

I like the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel (I've had their songs going around my head all week!), Queen, The Moody Blues (except the cassette is dying.... *sobs*) and, um, Don McLean... I think that's all.

Mostly thanks to my parents...

YAY!!! I feel at home!!!

Besides my recent thirst and hunger for punk/grudge/alternative rock, I love oldies!!

Like: BEE GEES, The Beatles, REO Speedwagon, REM, U2, ABBA, Bryan Adams, Nazareth (Love hurts rocks), Def Leperd, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Guns N Roses, The Temptations, the oldies of Madonna and Michael Jackson (like Holiday and Thriller), Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana, Bush, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Red-Hot Chilli Peppers, OASIS, The Wallflowers, Queen, KC and The Sunshine Band, INXS, Billy Idol, Bon Jovi, AEROSMITH (Janie's got a gun is AWESOME), Air Supply, AC/DC, Metallica, KORN, Pink Floyd, BLONDIE, Fleetwood Mac, Offsprings, old Foo Fighters (like their new songs too), Marvin Gaye, Rush, The Cranberries, Sixpence None the Richer, The Cardinals, Lynard Skynard (spelling?), Motley Crue, Kiss, Duran Duran, etc...

Basically, anything from the 60's-90's that my parents and siblings listened to.

"Take me down
To the paradise city
Where the grass is green
And the girls are pretty
Oh won't you please take me home!"

*rocks to the oldies in her iPod*

I'm a sucker for the classics.
