It's the same with Green Day calling themselves punk. They're not punk lol. They ruined the genre, because all of sudden you had lots of bands doing it Green Day style and called themselves punk. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of these bands but they're not part of the genre they claim themselves to belong to. *cough* Its alternative metal, if you people haven`t heard... and I do see SOAD as metal all tough they sound freaky, secondly I don`t see SOAD too commercialized compared to Green day... I have to agree you about Green day tough... |

Can we stop saying that other people's tastes are not good enough to be classified in a genre or are no good. I hate bands like Green Day and Nickelback etc but I don't advertise my opnions on this forum because it will, maybe, upset some people. As for SOAD they are metal and are very different. I havent heard a band like them. They have their own style and it works well, lots of people like it. They are loud fast, have powerful vocals and excelent riffs. I am not a huge fan but I respect what they do. And as for being too comercial, so what? They are making money which is what they need to do in order to live. If bands weren't comercial or the record companies thought there wasn't an audience for that music they wouldn't put a penny behind them. So if SOAD are too comercial all it means is they are making popular music that lots and lots of people enjoy and makes them feel good. As for Green Day they havent ruined the punk genre at all. They are making more appealing music, that does not mean they have ruined a genre. If you look in the right places you can still find "true" punk music. To be totaly ignorant towards other people's taste and say that you are right and they are wrong is just stupid. Music is all about taste, there is no right and wrong answer toward it. Just accept people's tastes in music and enjoy your own, there is no need to say "Your music is utterly rubish." If you want to "bash" another person's favourite band then at least be critical about it by backing up your arguements with some sort of musical knoweldge. I know I have been this way in the past by just saying a certain band/song is rubbish and not explaining why but I now know that it is wrong to do this and so I try not to be too critical about other people's tastes. Bottom line guys be cool and respect other people's tastes. |

I never said they were rubbish. I like Green Day a lot, I like System of a Down. I really enjoy all the punk/rock bands (the ones claiming to be punk when they're really rock, that's what i meant by ruining the genre: people don't know what's real punk anymore). I just don't feel they are necessarily in the genre they claim to be in. |

Hey Guys! Let's get back on topic here; No more debating over whether or not a band fits in what genre! Thanks! Jo wrote: Ok So I'm looking for some cool music to download. ok, im gonna come in with a double whammy. As far as music to listen to I would recomend a Symphony X cd (The Odyssey is my favorite album check out King of Terrors for a specific song) or Dragonforce (any album and almost any song) But in my opinion a little argument is good here and there; Having a rule of "NO bashing" is rediculous in my opinion. |

Guys!! *shoves Maldrid into the spotlight* He makes a really good point!!! we can discuss and have a civilised conversation about weather what band fits into what category but you cant just say well theyre not metal because I hate them. If your going to state why you dont beleive a certain band fits into that catergory try makeing an actual point like 'they dont fit because they sing about *insert thing here* or that they dont fit because they play in dminor instead of d major or something stupid liek that...thats be basics of a discussion, feel free to discuss away!!! I have the sex pistols, the clash and the remones on cd, I like em, but I'm getting sick of them cause I played them so much lol. |
