I love musicals. I've been in my school's spring musicals the past two years. Last year we did Once Upon a Matress, and this year we did Bye Bye Birdie. I really dislike Bye Bye Birdie, because I think the story is dumb, but it was a lot of fun to do, and we got a Best Musical Nomination at the Gene Kelly Awards, which are for high school musicals in my city. I was in the chorus both years... my goal for next year is to get one line. Haha.
I love Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Cats, and FOREVER PLAID. Forever Plaid is definitely the best ever. I really want to see Wicked when it comes to town next year. Actually, I realized that I like most musicals....

hehe...I saw a scene from Spamalot (they showed it on the Tony Awards)...it was actually pretty funny, and that's saying something, cause I hate Monty Python and the Holy Grail :/

OH my god! I love musicals! I mean, as a little kid, not so much...I mean Disney movies were all right. But now I have such an apprieciation for them. I just got back from the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska and all the main stage shows were musicals! They were AMAZING! Ragtime, Pirates of Penzance, Puck's Potion, Suessical and my all time favourite now: SWEENY TODD!!! Oh god! The music in that was UNBELIEVABLE! And to think that they were all HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS!!
But I've been involved with so much theatre now, that it's just natural. I can't act or sing, so I do tech work...but at our community theatre I've worked on Beauty and the Beast (so awesome), Les Miserables (school edition--and I love that show SO much) and just recently Damn Yankees! And I've also seen Evita in Spokane, WA. And that was unbelievable. But still, my favourite theatre production musical would have to be Sweeny Todd.
And I'm also a huge fan of Mary Poppins, and Moulin Rouge! Can't think of many others, but those stick out as my favourite on screen. I wish I could sing, then I'd be a cool techie. Wait--what am I saying?! Techies rock no matter what! Okay. Back to musicals...enough novel writing!

I love watching live musicals, and also being in them, albeit in an amateur company, although I am not so keen on movie musicals. I have seen - Phantom, Les Mis (seven odd times), Miss Saigon, Mary Poppins, We Will Rock You and Mamma Mia (twice) in the West End, plus a professional performance of Chicago in my local theatre. But most of the Musicals I watch are done on the amateur stage - too many to list really.
I've done Oklahoma, Carousel, Half a Sixpence, Chess, The Pajama Game, Kiss Me Kate, Calamity Jane plus three operettas - Gondoliers, Yeoman of the Guard and The Arcadians, plus a Musical based on the opera Carmen. Mostly in the chorus, but a couple of small parts here and there - I like the chorus - safety in numbers . I am currently rehearsing for Return to the Forbidden Planet.
One Musical that I would love to see (but probably won't unless it comes to the U.K.) is Wicked - my friend saw it on Broadway and lent me her sountrack. The music is fab and keeps me going in the Gym!

I love musicals. I have seen 2 brodway play; Aida and The Lion King, (they were both awesome) and I want to go see Wicked next year. Other musicals I like: Phantom of the Opera, Sound of Music, The Music Man. And maybe some others but I can't think of them right now.

Aaa! I was in Yeomen just a month ago!!! And we're doing Gondoliers next year, it's my all time favorite musical, and I just cannot wait!!!!!!!
(Sorry, G&S is my LIFE, don't even get me started! )
Did you have a part in either Gondoliers or Yeomen? I'm working on Gianetta for next year. But Yeomen was fun to be in even as chorus, because we were townspeople and got to talk a lot.

I didn't have a part in either Gondoliers or Yeoman. These were amongst the first shows that I ever did, and my voice was a bit ropey then, although if I had the chance now I would love to play Phoebe - I love the song Were I thy Bride.
Great picture - I liked the Yeoman Warder costumes. We were lucky enough to be able to hire extremely realistic looking uniforms for our Warders. Yours looks set in period (Elizabethan), but we set ours about 100 years later in the seventeenth century.
As for the Gondoliers good luck with your production next year. It was the first show that I ever did. I am an alto, so I will never play the likes of Gianetta or Casilda, but the chorus work in G & S is so fabulous, I would rather sing the harmonies in the chorus anyway.
Unfortunately, where I live it is difficult to get audiences to come and see G&S so it is rarely done any more, so I doubt I'll get the chance to do another one. There is a society that only performs G & S, but they rehearse too far away from where I live. I last saw them a few years ago doing Ruddigore (my absolute favourite!) and they were brilliant.

My school is doing SEUSSICAL this year. I'm not quite sure how I feel about it yet... I have a feeling it might be annoying, but my school always does well with more high energy, upbeat musicals.
Also, my new musical obsession is Newsies. Awesome movie, good story, good dancing. Cute Christian Bale... haha.

Yay for Seussical! I saw it in Nebraska...yeah, it's a bit...um, childish. But it's cute and it's a lot of fun!

Tis a shame about Julie Andrews. Poor lady!
ANyway! I LOVE!!! the musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. (YAy! Gwenneth, you and I should start a thread on the hillarousness of it! LOL!) It is just sooo awesome! All those guys flipping around on two by fours... HEHEHEEHE! I adore that musical.
I also really love the Sound of Music. "The HILLLS ARE ALIVE..." Beautiful songs, wonderful acting. Oh! And The Wizard of Oz! Judie Garland did such a spectacular job on "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"
I've seen others, but those are my favs!
