I have somewhat vague memories of the Green Bay Packers in the Vince Lombardi era. Playing in Green Bay late in the season was viewed with horror by all visiting teams (with the possible exception of the Minnesota Vikings). And as this was in the pre-AstroTurf era, things could get decidedly muddy. I sometimes wondered how the officials managed to identify individual players. In fact, I can imagine the odd player, after some heavy contacts, lining up wrong.
