[I shall now spare you the awkwardness, JF, of a dance. :P]

Lord Death appeared suddenly in the doorway at the mention of his favourite song. Lady Death picked up her skirts and ran to her husband. "You haven't been up to anything terrible, have you?" she asked running her hands down the front of his shirt to smooth it down. He whispered something that only she could hear, and her face whitened considerably. Gaining her composure she turned toward the rest of the party. "How about a bit of dancing everyone if Jocelyn will play for us?"

The music ended and she clapped her hands a few times to the woman who had been playing so wonderfully before flushing at many people turning to her to ask her to play. "Well if you all insist...." Walking over to the far corner of the room, she pulled a violin out of the darkness and held it up against her shoulder, scarlet rimmed eyes looking over the guests before a haunting voice escaped her as she sang a little poem.

" Zig, zig, zig, Death in cadence,
Striking a tomb with his heel,
Death at midnight plays a dance-tune,
Zig, zig, zag, on his violin.
The winter wind blows, and the night is dark;
Moans are heard in the linden trees.
White skeletons pass through the gloom,
Running and leaping in their shrouds.
Zig, zig, zig, each one is frisking,
You can hear the cracking of the bones of the dancers.
A lustful couple sits on the moss
So as to taste long lost delights.
Zig zig, zig, Death contines
The unending scraping on his instrument.
A veil has fallen! The dancer is naked.
Her partner grasps her amorously.
The lady, it's said, is a marchioness or baroness
And her green gallant, a poor cartwright.
Horror! Look how she gives herself to him,
Like the rustic was a baron.
Zig, zig, zig. What a saraband!
They all hold hands and dance in circles.
Zig, zig, zag. You can see in the crowd
The king dancing among the peasants.
But hist! All of a sudden, they leave the dance,
They push forward, they fly; the cock has crowed.
Oh what a beautiful night for the poor world!
Long live death and equality! "

Once her poem was finished she began to play.

Saffron clapped for Taur also, then turned to Joceleyn. "Yes, could you please play the Danse Macabre? Wow, we have so many talented musicians here..." She laughed. "I can listen, but I'm not so sure I can dance."

{Multitasking and the Hallowfest do not go hand in hand...}

Lady Death shivered at the conclusion of the poem, and her husband put his arm around her. The recitation of such a poem had been beautiful and strangely haunting... As Danse Macabre began to play Lord and Lady Death began their stately waltz about the ballroom, which turned into a wild twirling and dashing about as the song became faster.

"You may keep it" The Horseman replied to Taur.

[nuts I forgot about the smiling bit :P]

"I have pretty much everything under here" said The Horseman to Lady Death. "You never know when you might need... something" he added vaguely.

"Hmmm, hmmm, hmmmm" he hummed to the tune of which he was so fond as he twirled around the room. "Ah, I could have been a great dancer" he said with a sigh. "If only the ladies hadn't been so objectionable to my appearance".

Fragile decided she had spent enough time lurking in the shadows of the doorway. She moved into a corner of the room as Danse Macabre began to play and started to dance alone, her pale hair falling into her eyes as she moved.

Saffron finally gave in to the haunting melody and began to dance to the sound of Joceleyn's violin. She closed her eyes and could pretend that she was in an elegent gothic dress, until she began to trip on her baggy pajama bottoms. She wasn't at all a good dancer, but she was enjoying herself. Winter lay on the ground, purring as she watched the dancers.

Bubbles joined Saffron and Fragile and moved dramatically across the floor, abandoning all embarrassment she might have felt if she had let herself think before dancing. She stepped neatly over Winter and spun until the world around her turned into a dark blur. Pink bubbles floated up in a cloud around her.

Fragile moved out towards the center of the room, continuing to dance. For a moment she paused to glance at the piano, making a mental note to sit down and play something later - perhaps once there were a few less people in the room. Fragile almost tripped over the black cat, Winter, but managed to skip over her just in time.

MH and Haldir sat in the library for a couple of hours, their noses in books, both having found something that caught their interests. Haldir had heard music coming from the ballroom for some time now. His wife on the other hand, paid no mind to it. He couldn't even remember if he saw her eyes leave the book. He looked up at her and book at the book several times before he finally closed the book, metnally remembering the page number and set the book down on an end table.
He rose from his seat and approached MH, taking the book from her hands and folded back a corner of the page, marking her place and set it down. "You can finish that later," he said smiled. MH raised an eyebrow, unsure of what was going on in his head.
"Stand up," Haldir said pulling from from the chair. "And come with me." He took her hand and lead her out of the library and brought her into the ballroom. It was filled with many guests. He was pleased to know that it was faster pace song playing.
"Haldir.." MH began but he raised a hand silencing her. "Shh, not yet. Just follow my lead." He took her hands and began to dance in quicker pace that MH had never seen him do before. She was even more surprised when he suddenly spinned her around. She looked at him with wide eyes.
"Surprised are you?" Haldir asked.
"Indeed," MH answered. "When did you learn to dance like this?"
"Not too long ago," he replied. "But I had a little help. I was planning to wait until the next Yule Ball to surprise you but I hadn't expected a ballroom here and I just could not wait."
MH just smiled and shook her head lightly. Her husband was still full of unexpected surprises.

Tired of dancing Lord and Lady Death walked idly from the ballroom and out onto the garden terrace. Night was already upon them and the moon was out casting shadows over the lawn of the great mansion. Lady Death listened to the house creak and for a moment she thought she heard something else besides the whispering of the wind. Shaking her head she looked out toward the faint outline of a cemetery in the distance.

[Boy do I love me some imagery... ]

The song soon finished and she lowered the violin to the ground with the slight bow of her head. She was glad to see that her music could bring such life to the ballroom. Now that everyone seemed occupied she set the violin back into the corner and escaped like a red mist.

"Bravo! Bravo!" clapped The Horseman.

"As it is such a lovely night, perhaps we should move out onto the terrace?" he offered.

[[Lady Death, good imagery is the cornerstone of good writing, in my opinion. So don't be afraid of it. I could talk on this subject for ages, but I won't. :-P ]]

Fragile Silence stopped dancing when the strains of the violin faded. She glanced around the room hesitantly, and when she noticed others leaving the room moved to sit at the piano. She ran her fingers over the smooth, cool white keys, trying to find the courage to play. Then, a smile touching her lips, she played the first few notes of Into the West. The mellow, slow-paced song felt like a welcome rest after the fast-paced dancing.

Catherine fixed her mask to her face and smiled very much like a cat. The woman in general was very well mannered and clever, but there was always a little something snakelike about her activities, like she knew something you did not, and was quietly (and politely) laughing about it behind your back.

She nodded to Horseman's comment, and added her own commentary after taking a sip of her wine. "Yes!" she exclaimed, her eyes widening under the gold and red mask so that it looked as if she had just been struck with a superb idea; "Such a night would be wasted staying about inside. Perhaps we could persuade our talented musicians to play us a tune in the gardens?" She questioned, her tone sincere and flattering, with a touch of pleading to add to the effect.

Kit heaved a tired sigh and she took off the apron she wore as she made the dishes and dishes loads of breakfast goods. "Honestly... my cooks decide to quit on me now, all because Harry saw a figure walking about last night while everyone was asleep and they were afraid the killings will happen again. Wimps, all of them."

She peaked out in the dining room and noticed that there were dirty dishes lying around and most of the food were gone, "Someone was hungry..." Kit muttered and called for Pliff to clean everything up. "Tell Milton to set the pumpkins out in the garden, and have him put up the pull-out tables, oh and get some knives."

Kit then made her way out into the hallways to search for her missing guests. "Now... where could they have gone?" Upon hearing voices and some music, she made her way to the ballroom where she came upon a rather large group. "Ah, enjoying the piano, I see. I have an announcement to make that wasn't exactly in our first order of plans."
