Love Ice Hockey! But it doesn't even hardly make a beep on the radar here in Oz. Who is is in the finals this year?

Yep, ice hockey! Although I played field hockey in high school.
The Pens, Senators, Ducks and Predators are the last four duking it out.
Last year I came close to winning Fantasy... I chose the Sharks instead of the Pens...
Sounds like we do need a Sports thread.

Yay! A kindred spirit ..... I love ice hockey and have been a life-long fan of the Montréal Canadiens. The need to acquire some decent scorers in the off season. Their current crop of offensive players can't seem to put the puck in the net with any regularity. The defense is playing well and really, really hope they leave it alone.
Watching the Toronto Blue Jays baseball now.

My father was on (West) Germany’s (field) hockey national team in the early 1950s. While we spent a bit less than half a year between leaving India and heading over to the US in 1966, he signed me up for his club’s youngster team (would be vaguely comparable to Baseball’s Little League) in Köln (Cologne). Seems I had some natural ability for the sport, because the trainer of the 14-years-old team asked after a training session “who’s that little kid with the killer shot?” So I was, at 10, allowed to play defense for the 14-yo team in a tournament (I was also a little Speedy Gonzales at that age) - which we won. In the US, this translated into my being constantly underestimated in (pickup) baseball – well, more street baseball in school – and softball games in college. But there was one hitch, which led to my never making my high school’s baseball team: I had trouble hitting pitching. (For those knowledgeable in the sport, a theoretical example: I would get three hits in 20 at bats - .150 batting average.  But those three hits would be monster home runs.  )  _________________

When both series are tied 1-1 for the Stanley Cup, the best teams must have made it to the semifinals.
E~S, I haven't been watching baseball this season. How are the Jays doing overall?

They've been up and down. They definitely miss Encarnacion. Mind you, he wanted way too much money, but they did open their pockets for that arrogant POS Bautista. I actually don't pay too much attention to the season until the All-Star break.

Um … if I now confess that the last baseball player names that ring a bell for me are Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds (heck, I still saw Barry’s daddy Bobby play!), you might know why I remember the names, but … what decade are we talking about?

I remember watching the players you've named play but they're all retired now. Some of the players today are in amazing condition, and are really, really. You don't see much of the beer-gut type players any longer. I guess when they're being paid $21 million dollars the least they can do is hire a personal trainer in the off season.

Geez... remember going to a Seattle Mariners game where Ken Griffy Jr and Sr played in the same game in the early 90's. And remember when Ken Jr was returning to Seattle and played. Was at that game too. He got an HR on his third at bat. Now he's retired.

Fact: I have become somewhat of a 'foodie'.... I love buying and eating fresh. Still have the Hungry Jacks/Burger King double cheeseburger once in a while though.

My bicycle from about 1970 to 1974 was a Schwinn Sting-Ray 5-speed (the one with ape-hanger handlebars, banana seat and 20-inch tires).
