So the north-west including Canada’s British Columbia is burning while the south/south-east is drowning. And somewhere in Kansas there’s a place where these things average out to “everything’s fine”. Just shows you that there are situations where an average is just hugely useless. Not that the other two, median and mode, are really helpful in some situations; it’s just that the average – classical case anything “per capital” – fits someone’s definition of “lies, damn lies and statistics” (it’s probably ol’ Mark Twain again?)

We finally got some much-needed rain.

So did we! the first spring thunderstorm rolled through Brisbane yesterday in two waves, dumping heavy rain for a short time twice.
It had been a long dry "winter" (as the locals call it). I call it 'Autumn/Spring' as it only got down to single digits for about a week or so in July.

I have way too much junk. I really need to cull some crap.

My reading has for ages been practically limited to non-fiction. Except for JRRT-related stuff, which mostly consists of commented editions.

I wish I had fled this country when I could. I'm just done with it.

Someone or something testing your patience? I tend to be patient... until I'm not. ;)

My knee isn't healing as fast as I would like. Having worked in the medical firld for 30 years, I actually know how long it will take, but it still pisses me off. I should be exempt from these niggling things, damn it!

Hope you recover well in time.

Fact: I have little tolerance of whiney, depressive, narcissistic people.

(Thought I'd bring back the old-school way this thread was run)

The only (High) Fantasy reading I’ve done has been limited to excerpts of stories, or short stories, in anthology books like “After The King” (1992, so guess why, edited by Martin H. Greenberg).

I was for a long time influenced (brainwashed, almost) that out locally brewed beer was less than premium stuff. Even back then, though, an elderly and experienced colleague stated emphatically that this local beer, draughted from a keg properly, could match any of the hyped beers. Messing up the draughting from a keg can seriously impair the enjoyment of any friggin’ beer. Anyway, for several years now this local beer has been what I buy. To those knowing the differences, it’s a Pilsner beer, somewhat on the bitter side. As far as beer can do so, the most thirst-quenching variety. The high-octane stuff becoming “popular” with what seems to be called craft breweries, crossing borders to liqueurs and whiskeys and what not – ain’t beers, goofballs!

I despise housework so it always comes as a bit of a personal shock when I actually knuckle under and do something domestic around the house.
