I was just curious about what people thought about horse riding and if it was a sport or not. I was just curious to know what you guys thought.

Of course it is. There is horce racing, and the game you are playing with your horse and you hit the ball while you are on horseback. Riding a horse whether as hobby or the other it changes from people to people

Riding is one of the biggest hobby;s but i think the sports are cruel.
Like horse racing, people just use such beatifull creatures to earn money and have entertainment, its sick.
If you see some of those horses, some of the injuries, its just really mean harsh and cruel.

Horse back riding is definitely a sport! If you have ever done dressage you realize that it is extremely entergetic and you are constantly moving your muscles! So, it's a sport in a physical sense, and it's also a sport in a competitive sense, there are competitions everywhere and so on....
It's the same with western riding as well...
In fact I can't think of a way horseback riding isn't a sport...
In conclusion, Horseback riding is a sport! Whee!

horseback riding is a sport, i wouldn't post here if i didn't think it was because i hate when people say marching band isn't a sport (and it is because we practice more often and harder than the football team) so, yea horseback riding is a sport

yay! I'm glad people agree with me. Dressage is SO difficult! I know what you mean, it takes total concentration. I'm more of a show jumper, myself and that doesn't take as much concentration but it is just as difficult. I mean, it is definitely a sport. Even my brother claims it's not a sport and it's easy! When people say that it bugs me! So I just say 'ok, lets see YOU do that jump course.' that usually shuts them up pretty fast! [/b]

w00t! Go horseback riding!! Go english jumpers!!
Ahem. Well, yes, it really is a sport. There's nothing else in the world that makes me as tired or sweaty or sore.
And plus, in baseball or swimming, you never have the worry of falling...period!

I'd say it's definitly a sport! You work hard at it, there are competitions. I'm not entirely sure what the "definition" of sports would be, but I think horseback riding is one!

Of course horse riding is a sport!
I hate it when people say it's really easy and anyone can do it, because its not easy at all, especially dressage and showjumping.
Though of course it is also a hobby. Some people do it a sport and some as a hobby, if you get me.
