They do bite. And it hurts.

A lot. :annoyed:

Anyway, I hate mosquitos! :explode:

There was this postcard I had once, which states that the mosquito is the Maine State Bird. Personally, I agree. (there are enough of 'em :annoyed2: )

I'm so glad they don't have mosquitos in England, because according to my Science teacher I have a lot of that chemical that attracts insects to you and they bite you or whatever.

It's because the teacher was also my form teacher, and she used to have a ferret in the classroom and I used to always get bitten by the fleas in the class until the exterminators came in.

EXTERMINATE!

Even so, I get bitten by annoying little flies and stuff when I go out!

... and after a dry spell, the hint of a possible rain shower has brough tout the mosquito scouts looking for blood. Killed two small ones in the house last night. But it's the big striped ones that hav eto be watched for, as they carry nasties like Dengue Fever... lousy blood poisoning suckers...

We have hardly been bothered by them here this year. In earlier years, I also noted that they seem to be low fliers (the rare times I was downstairs after dark they were more annoying, and the occasional rabbit was also shaking its ears quite often). Rarely make it up to our upper second floor (third floor in some strange civilizations).

We've not had many issues with mosquitoes here as well. The drought conditions have helped keep them to a minimum as there hasn't been much standing water in which they can breed.

From a short chat (from our balcony) about dogs – many people pass by both heading into and returning from the forest for their doggie walks – the other person confirmed that there are mosquitoes after all in the meadow, at ground level. Low fliers, as I assumed in my above post, and perhaps my usual “fumigation” when I’m on the balcony also helps keep them away.
