The What : A two week long event is being hosted by the Arwen-Undomiel forum to celebrate the ever-so haunting and daring holiday (or should be a holiday, thank you public school systems), Halloween. It is a roleplay event sponsored by the Club Section about guests who have been cordially invited to spend Halloween at an elegant, charming, yet <I>mysterious</I> mansion. Everyone’s bound to have a great time with all the scheduled events.

There’s just one problem! People are getting hacked off! Will you come to the party? Can you help solve the puzzling mystery?
Can you ignore the fact that the killer was actually revealed last year and pretend this new one’s a successor or something? Can you?! DUN DUN DUN.

The Challenge is here.

The When : This event will be officially be held from October 17th thru October 31st in the year AD 2008. External, non-roleplayed events will coincide these dates, even if previously posted before the start of the event. Will you still be alive to see the end?

The Where : Because it is sponsored by the Club Section, it will be hosted in the Club Section. All roleplayed threads will be held there. Non-roleplayed threads, such as the contest information and voting will be held in the Contest Section, graciously provided by the great Johnny’s Fan (I think it’s been established that it’s her turf, so we must tread carefully and respectfully, though I hear bribery with Alan Rickmans and Septimuses, and other tragic “misunderstood” heroes would suffice quite nicely).

The Who : That’s all up to you guys! Are you interested in participating? If you’re not sure what to expect, don’t worry. You have TWO WEEKS to adjust, but feel free to find an ‘experienced’ Hallowfester to shadow. The Hallowfest would like participants to produce an alias, or an undercover persona as it is a Halloween event. <I>This is entirely optional as it is hard to customarily change your rank stars and title.</I> But if you do wish to mask yourself: change your avatar and signature. Also, if you do intend on using an alias, <b>please PM me with your alias</b> so that we can keep track of everyone.

<b><u>All participating members are required to pm to me a brief profile of themselves, no falsehoods</u></b>. This will be posted at the start of the event so that clues can be made off of them and members can study and guess more efficiently. Sum up your personality, your favorite things and your quirks, but do not allude to everything as to give away your identity should you choose to go with an alias.

There will be a ‘guest’ list compiled during the week before the event starts. If you ‘RSVP’d but did not see your name on the list, make sure it gets there! It is during this pre-event trial that I will choose a member to work alongside as the ‘killer’. This could be anyone who signs up to participate, moderator or not. If you’re interested, please post a reply in this thread stating so! The more, the (hopefully) merrier, or in this case, bloodier! [insert evil cackle here]

The number of members who will be killed will partially depend on how many guests show sign up.

The How : During the two weeks, guests will come and go as with a regular roleplay, but there will be sudden deaths to some members. Members who have died will be given a ‘ghost status’ meaning their stars will be changed to silver and their rank will say “Ghost”. After a member dies, they will be pm’d a clue to their murder that they may reveal to the rest of the party as a ghost.

Outside the ghost, clues will be found and stated by three neutral parties, the host, the maid, and the butler. I, the host, cannot be the murderer, nor can my maid or my butler.

Participating members are allowed FOUR guesses to who the murderer may be during the two-weeklong event. This would require a spokesperson, a leader of the guests, so choose wisely. The spokesperson must make sure the majority of the participating guests agree to accuse a member. A guest will be made to the host and the host will either confirm or deny.

If the guests do guess correctly before Halloween, each will receive a “I solved the mystery of the 2nd annual Hallowfest” sig-set. If Halloween arrives and they do not guess the killer correctly, the killer will be revealed on Halloween and will be awarded a “I killed ____ people at the 2nd annual Hallowfest and got away with it” sig-set.

The Events :
Aside from the in-roleplay events that will be posted at the start of the event, four contests will be held in the Contest section. Each contest will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placements. Awards will be handed out to winners.

<b>Pumpkin Carving Contest</b>: Folks can purchase a pumpkin, shell it out and carve a design in it. It could be anything, but a physical knife must be used (so if you’re clumsy, we don’t want to be blamed for any accidents, we’re poor. Please don’t sue).

<b>Graphic Pumpkin Contest</b>: People who are nifty with computer design programs can use this opportunity to make a certain ‘pumpkin’ themed graphic. Details will be posted.

<b>Traditional Pumpkin Art Contest</b>: Here is where members can submit hand-drawn, traditional art entries. Also pumpkin themed. Details will be posted.

<b>Pumpkin Graphics Contest</b>: Here you can create graphics (ie. 700 x 500 banners and such with the ongoing pumpkin theme!

<b>Hallowfest Writing Contest</b>: The writing contest will be a provided prompt with some limitations as to word-count and theme, so that it can be easily voted on and finished by Halloween. Details will be posted.

Ok, so I will most likely be coming up with a name for the event - it's the only time I can have a nice change from JF and get away with it - but I haven't decided on it yet. I'll PM my profile to you as soon as I can.

And I'll set up the three pumpkin contest threads today, and get the dates worked out and everything.

I'm hoping to [s]kidnap[/s] enlist one of the more writery people on AU for the writing contest. :P

@Johnny's Fan: Do you intend to be aliased the entire event? When you post for the contest, it may be obvious. If you want you can set up the contests, pm me and have it written just how you want it posted and I can post it for you.

If worse comes to worse I can definitely post up the writing contest, but it won't be up until this weekend.

Well I don't really mind if people know I am JF, I mean, they did last year, all they had to do was check my profile and they knew. :P It's just nice to have a name change really. :teehee: It's not as if guessing my real username will help them decide who the killer is or anything. So I'm Ok to set up the contests.

Yay, I'm in... when living in a country so Halloween-ignorant as mine this is highly exciting!!
I won't be taking an alias. It would be too easy to discover for the same reasons Ellie stated - I post too much in Your Life and I'd just end up confusing myself if I changed banner and avatar. :P

@Ea: Ideally, by Wednesday, October 15th. So that the two days can give me time to organize the guest list and post the start of the event that Friday. And all three, host, maid, and butler will be played by me. It's just more convenient and then members won't have to do anything other than try to figure out the murderer.

Hmm, I'm new to this, as last year I didn't know it was even going on... so it's like Clue, right?

I think I'll participate... I'm still sorta confused about what to do - is it like a normal RP where someone comes in and writes "____ entered in her dazzling orange and black dress and glanced around the old mansion"?

And the bio... do we make up a character or use ourselves...?

Sorry about all of the questions.. just curious. :blush:

It's sort of similar to clue, yes. With some tweaking.

It is a normal roleplay. You can come as yourself, or under an alias where you change your username, avatar, and sig. Either way, the profile you send to me should have a short summary about yourself, and your "profession" is like a job you would have---just to make things interesting. If you're still unclear with how I'm explaining it, maybe someone can help you. Find someone who participated last year and maybe they can guide you through it. =]
