Hi, everyone!

I saw this on another forum, and thought it would be fun to do here. Wait! no! This is 3 ideas!

#1) We can start an "Adopt A Newbie" forum!
#2) We can start a "crazy nickname" thing! Someone requests a nickname and someone will give one to them based on their profile info, posts etc.
#3) We can do a thing where we have A-U sisters/brothers and include that in out signatures like this:

A-U Sisters: blah, blah and blah
A-U Brothers: blah, blah and blah

What do you think??? I think it would be fun!

I like the Adopt a Newbie idea! It reminds me of the concept of "Bigs and Littles" that I've encountered in conversations about fraternities and sororities on campus. Basically, you're given a "Big" who has been around in the organization (in this case, on the forum) for a while to be your friend and guide you through things and it sounds really fun. And I like newbies, so it would be fun for something like that to start up around here. I also like the Big Sisters idea, it kind of goes along with the family trees that have been discussed.

Yeah! And it would help newbies feel comfortable too! Yes, I was thinking of the family tree thing, but wasn't sure how to incorporate that in there... I haven't looked too much into the family tree, though I'm really into that stuff!

This would be a great thing to get running again. The Welcome Club used to have a think like the "adopt a newbie" idea, where members would be partnered with new AU members to show them the ropes, as it were. I'd love to see that back up now that we have lots of new members again.

The sisters/brothers thing is a huge component of the family trees. They haven't been very active in a while, because a lot of the people have left, but there are still some branches out there. And it is a nice thing to have daughters and mothers and sisters when you're going about the forum.

All this to say, great thoughts! And you wouldn't need a lot of work to get them started, because there's groundwork laid for them on here already.

I think that would be a good idea. =) It would also be good to have a group of people (5 or 6?) that you know you can contact to pair up with someone if no one steps up. Make sure that people are aware of the adoption idea, how it works, and so on.


Larael was the one taking care of it, but she hasn't been around in quite a while. If you want to follow what exactly happened with that, the thread is here. As it stands, there are people interested in keeping them going, so I think if you just start deciding things it will fall into place. (And don't worry about needing full consensus on everything. If there's not a response or just a few people saying "good idea" just go for it.)

Those are great ideas Aerliniel.

1.Adopt a Newbie. Like Nurr said, we used to have a buddy system where a group up people signed up to become buddies for new members. And all new members were assigned a buddy. The buddy would PM the new member with a welcome message and offer to help and answer questions.
I think it would be a great idea to post a thread on the Welcome/Introductions board where people could be 'adopted' by another member or get a buddy.

2.Crazy nicknames. Sounds fun.. would probably be suited for Misc. Randomness.

3.A-U family. Like Nurr said, we used to have extensive A-U Family Trees. It looks like enough people have expressed interest in reviving the trees, so you guys should really just go ahead and get it running!!
