We've had a couple of sprinklings of rain but not enough to really count.

Recently met a buddy of mine, who is the person I’ve known the longest (from the 1960s), in our city center. Being two years older than I am, and being born in January, he will be going into regulation retirement in October of this year (I’m in early retirement).

May actually was a month with above-average precipitation (114 %), and also broke a string of 13 months (April 2018 - April 2019) with above-average temperatures by being below average. Both things have led to the greenery around us actually being green this year, in contrast to last year.

Been wearing my lightest shorty pyjama in the apartment in the last few days due to our first serious heat wave.

We have a lovely, much needed, rainy day here.

No rain during the day (after finally getting some during last night and early morning), but we had cloud cover almost all day, so things are nice and cool outside and in the apartment.

I am glad my friends in Southern California are safe and well after the recent earthquakes.

We've had quite a bit of sunshine so far in July (which is, to my surprise, according to statistics the rainiest month of the year for the region as per the 1981-2010 average, followed by June, August and May, in that order), but the temperatures have stayed tolerable to comfortable, staying below 30°C (86°F), often below 25°C (77°F) due to the air masses coming in from westerly to northerly directions. This is in stark contrast to the last week in June, when we had an influx of west Saharan air masses, sending temperatures quickly above 30°C, often over 35°C (95°F) and breaking high temperature records all over the place in Germany and most of western Europe (especially France and Spain). In Germany, the new records were often above the 38°C (100.4°F) mark, with records set on Wednesday 26 June being busted only four days later on Sunday 30 June. We had a bit of useful rain last weekend during the night Sat/Sun (after two-and-a-half weeks of zero precipitation), and have hopes for more to come starting perhaps tomorrow afternoon and possibly extending to Saturday. But all of this will be mostly showers at unpredictable places and times, not the kind of complete cloud cover and steady rain for several days that we need (to recoup the depletion of ground water resources since at the latest the hellish summer of 2015, we would need “several” rainy summers, as per the relevant experts).

The rain has continued, off and on, which means our threat of forest fires has been reduced when compared with last year.

We're having a drizzle right now, enough to moisten the roads and footpaths, but not nearly enough to form puddles.

PS a little less than three hours later:
The drizzle has progressed to a steady rain, and puddles have formed. While the rain is now audible when I'm on the balcony, to see it you have to look at a darkish background like the coniferous trees, against lighter backgrounds it still remains almost invisible. Image

We're 150 miles from Ridgecrest CA, and swayed from both earthquakes. A family friend had a 1 minute warning from his earthquake alarm (the "Quake Alarm" by jds Products, Inc., on Amazon). He adjusted it to detect the P-waves that precede the noticeable S-waves. I bought two.
