My daughter said something about the earthquakes, and my son in Seattle said something about the one near Seattle.

We're running out of good TV shows to stream.

And as this seems to be the 'weather' thread. We had a few sleet showers broken up by sunbreaks today. Temps just above freezing.

Well, this is the thread in the “House of Bombadil (Miscellaneous Randomness)” forum where posts about the weather fit in best. Of course, there’s also the “What Happened Today?” thread in the “The Green Dragon Inn (Your Life)” forum, where I last posted about weather …

I didn’t have to refill the smaller bird bath on the other side of the meadow today due to the rain we’ve had since yesterday evening.

Thanks to the rain, I have a shed load of mowing to do before the next bout of rainfall arrives on Tuesday.

We're having typical weather for early July which means sun mixed with rainy periods. It's annoying but it keeps the forest fire levels low.

Today I gave both the larger bird bath next to our entrance door and the smaller one on the other side of the meadow a scrub before refilling them, as they were both showing beginning algae growth again.

Today, a new "national record" for the highest temperature ever recorded in Germany by an official weather station since records began to be kept in the late 19th century was reached: 40.5°C (104.9°F). The old record was 40.3°C (104.5°F) set in 2015. Seems that then so-called "summer of the century" of 2003 is having its records shredded. And this new record may hold for exactly one day, as the peak of the current heat wave is not expected until tomorrow.

Regionally, at 7 PM the temperature was still 35°C (95°F). At 10 PM it was still 29°C (84.2°F). Getting the heat out of our apartment may involve us having to wait until way past midnight before we can open the windows. :headwall:

EDIT Thursday 25 July:
Yes, yesterday's record was a one-day-wonder. The first weather station to report a higher temperature today did so at 2:20 PM. And the maximum temperatures were mostly reached around 5 PM. Yesterday’s record must be in something like a tie for 30th place in the list of highest temperatures recorded by German weather stations by now.
The new record did not just nudge up the old one like that did the previous one, it pulverized it: 42.6°C (108.7°F).

And regionally, today's 10 PM temperature was 31°C (87.8°F). :headwall:

Feeling a bit run down all day.

Things cooled of after the record-busting week in July. Today's temperatures topped 30°C (86°F) for the first time in quite a while, but temperatures are set to drop by 10 or more degrees C (18 F) for the first three days of the week, which will hopefully also bring much-needed rain.

I have mowed the front lawns but I still have to weed wack and mow the ditch.

Bought a new "bird bath" for the other side of the lawn (actually a big plastic saucer one puts under big-pot potted plants) as the one donated there by a neighbor in last year’s blistering heat wave has apparently been misused by some squirrels as “chewing gum” (or whatever). As I have seen quite quickly, there still seem to be “furry hooligans” around who have started chewing on this thing too. Makes me wonder if this is the squirrel equivalent of glue sniffing in humans!

Went to a new Optometrist and am awaiting my trial contact lenses. Compared to last year's debacle, this exam went very smoothly, and I like my new Optometrist.

We finally had the first useful rain on Friday and Saturday for the first time in about six weeks.

Halloween has me craving those wee chocolate bars they bring out for Trick or Treating.

We're actually having autumn weather! Meaning some rainfall almost every day since my last post, occasionally several showers each day. The last few years, it seemed that spring and autumn had been abolished, winter jumping to summer and vice-versa.

My furnace has finally packed it in. Thank goodness it did so before the weather gets really cold.

The weekend brought sunny weather with the temperatures topping 20°C noticeably (so about mid-70s °F).
