I did something similar. I bought hot dogs, but forgot the rolls.

Our beverage store did not have our favorite medium bubbly mineral water stocked when we went shopping today, so I took a different brand – and yes, I can taste a difference, and unfortunately, I find the difference in taste to be negative.

I won't eat shellfish thanks to an unfortunate encounter with a raw oyster when I was nine years old.

I'm not much of a fish fan if the truth be told. Also, strangely enough, I prefer tinned salmon to fresh salmon.

Love canned tuna in springwater! It's been too long since I made some tuna sandwiches for lunch.

I'm not a huge fan of store-bought BBQ sauce. Does anyone have a good recipe for a homemade one? Hanasían?

When we were in the US, the one supposedly favorite food of (young) Americans that I considered the lowest depths of barbarity was the peanut-butter (I didn’t like this in pure form, either) and jelly sandwich.

I love a PBJ sandwich! I last ate one the past weekend. So it's not just youngsters that like them.

I guess that at the core of my “yuck” reaction is the peanut butter itself. An aversion that probably took hold very soon after my parents and I moved to the US when I was ten years old. The tuna fish sandwich may have topped my yuck list, even above (or actually below) peanut butter-and-anything, but to date I am still not overly fond of fish dishes. In a way strangely, what in Germany is called “Meeresfrüchte”, and in Italy “frutti di mare”, imperfectly translated into “seafood” – it would have to exclude fish, as per what I have been served when ordering dishes of the sort – has become a favorite of mine, though allowing a longish time to pass between enjoying such dishes also helps. The point is that there is no passage of time sufficient to change my opinion on peanut butter, while many other dishes which would have shared my youthful opinion of “inedible” have now changed over into the “edible” column.

That hatred was based on my first encounter with pizza in 1965. Was at my friend's house down the street when they went and got pizza from the local chain (Pizza Pete). It had anchovies, sardines, and prawns on it! Yuck! After that, when I heard 'Pizza' I got nauseated as this what was came to mind. It wasn't until I was in Jr High school when the class went out for pizza did I conquer this. I found out Pizza could come in any number of ways, and fell in love with the basic pepperoni and Margharita! Been making up for lost time ever since.

While my parents and I lived in India (we left when I was 10), I was extremely averse to any spicy food, for whatever reason (I was also as close as I’ll ever come to being a vegetarian, for other reasons). That only started to change when I went to college in the US in late 1973. I then veered a bit in the other direction (though I was sensible enough to choose “European spicy” instead of the suicidal “Indian spicy” whenever eating at an Indian restaurant). Now, I’ve gone back to a middle ground, if somewhat skewed towards spicy. When I see (in TV shows) how some nutcases on the Internet take a bite out of the volcanically spicy chili peppers that have by now been bred by some very strange people, I sometimes sarcastically think “hey, take a gulp of hydrochloric (or sulfuric, or nitric) acid, wimp!” Though then, the contortions that the naïve nutcases go through after taking that bite are among the most satisfying “schadenfreude” events to be had.

I can ignore long-winded talkers rather easily.
