LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Funny how things seem to accumulate a specific and comforting taste over time! LOL!!!!!

I mix up my own blend and add cinnamon (1 tsp) to the filter before brewing it. Man, oh man.........it's almost decadent and the cinnamon also provides medicinal benefits for high blood pressure and mood stabilization. :-)

It's probably a good idea for me to get out and purchase one of those percolators in the event that I lose power, this winter - I can just set it on top of the wood stove. According to folklore, the abundance of fruits and nuts on trees suggest a harsh winter! Well, and the squirrels are starting to grow very thick tails, too - that's another harbinger because they use their tails as blankets. ;-)

So..........coffee! YES!!!!!!!!!

The subjective taste of coffee, with or without additives, is very much subject to certain bacterial or viral incidents affecting that section of the human anatomy above the neck, aka the common cold and its closer or more distant relatives. Leading to severe loss of taste ability (the sense of taste is very much not simply derived from the taste buds on the tongue, the accompanying sense of smell is vital), so many things taste of cardboard or the liquid equivalents. And when the affliction recedes, leading to the subjective impression that the – for example – coffee has been overdosed in the last pot. Erm, no.

When I had my drip coffee machine, I used a spice grinder to grind the beans, and I would put a bit of Cinnamon and a Clove in the grind for a lovely spice coffee. I still got that set-up at work, but don't seem to use it much.

It is quite good, and works well in a drip-filter be that a single cup pour or a machine.

Was tempted to try it with my DeLonghi.... hmm.... if I clear the beans away from the hopper input and toss a clove and drop some cinnamon in before pushing the beans back around it, that may work! :-D

Evil Shieldmaiden, I always add about 1 tsp of cinnamon to my drip machine filter along with the grounds. Oh, gracious. And, you can add other stuff like nutmeg, allspice, cocoa, vanilla bean...........you name it. Customize your coffee. :-) And, I'm absolutely not fond of those K-cup machines. They really do not save on any level. They're inconvenient, they're expensive to operate, the coffee portions are expensive, and they're really messy if you choose to fill your own little portion cups. LOVE a drip machine or........better yet.......an electric or stove-top percolator. I have a stove-top percolator for when the power goes out - I can make my coffee on the wood stove.

K-Cup......boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew! LMAO!!!!!!!!

Those are those ridiculously expensive one-cup coffee makers that you load up with this tiny little container of coffee grounds, and it makes just one cup at a time. They're realllly expensive, and the tiny containers of coffee are expensive, and they do not save any energy, whatsoever, because you have to keep running the thing for every cup of coffee.

Ah yes, those 'pod' things. Environmentally crappy way to make coffee.

While any single-cup producing machines are likely to be environmental havoc compared to the drip-(with paper)filter machines for say 10 cups, preferably with the receiving pot being of the thermos type, there are hierarchies of devastation like the five-point hurricane scale. We have (had?) small machines in the offices I used to frequent which use pads (soft and possibly somewhat biodegradable). Longer ago I have a memory of a Lavazza machine (not overly big either) which had plastic pods. And then there are the machines whose pods are made of aluminum. The last two variants are Trump-stupidity territory. :hammer:

The initial concept of those pod-type brewers was that they would be "better" for the environment, on every level. Less waste, less use of electricity per cup, etc. I detest them. With the percolators and filtered machines, I can put either in my composting pile without having to dig the grounds out of the pods. AND, I can have my 2 cups without having to go through the motions of turning the machine on, waiting for the water to boil, inserting the pod, and waiting for the hot water to funnel through the pod. It's WEAK coffee, at that! ICK

I think it would be fun (for me) to switch on my conspiracy theory mode (anyone finding sarcasm in what follows may keep it, I have a nearly limitless supply of it):

First, be it pads or pods or other techniques, the end product is one cup / mug of coffee. The term “singles” immediately pops into my mind.

Second - here I admit my experience outside (or actually even inside) the company with such machines is a tad limited. But I’m guessing from when we bought our old-fashioned drip-with-paper-filter machine, having to scour the shelves loaded with the other stuff to find the rather rare drippers, that those non-drippers were not exactly in the budget price class. Target clientele: hardly single moms struggling with their typically low-paying (to put it mildly) jobs, must be people who make more money (and perhaps have more left over because some drains on finances just do not exist with this crowd). Suddenly, the term “nerds” pops into my mind.

Some urban legends percolate (!!!) around this subset of society. A list of items that may be absent when they go shopping:

toothpaste
soap
shampoo
deodorant
washing machine detergent
dishwasher detergent or whatever
shoe polish
food needing more than five minutes of direct concentration …

Some medium-to-big-ticket items:

iron
ironing board
washing machine
dishwasher
oven
cooking range

OK, enough.

And then, some of those machines would just appeal irresistibly to Dilbert of Scott Adams comic strip fame. Display menus with several levels of sub-menus! You can program it!! You can even RE-program it!!! Hog nerd heaven!!!!

Now really enough, or to use an archaic term

*TILT*

Wow.

I just gave my coffee machine a good cleaning! One day I will take the head apart and clean it, but that is major disassembly.
