Is it just me or would Richard Harris, God rest his soul, have made a great Gandalf? He played the ORIGINAL Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies(1 and 2) in case you guys don't know who he is. But Ian McKellan was WONDERFUL

Yeah I actually did think of Richard Harris as Gandalf... And Ian McKellen as Dumbledore.
I think Richard Harris could have played Gandalf very well. He looks very wise and all, but McKellen is just somehow - I don't know - stronger or somthing and - dirtier. I couldn't see Harris in the Mines of Moria with sweat and dirt on his face ... Ian McKellen handles that brilliantly.

Oh, yes, I've always thought that Gandalf and Dumbledore were A LOT alike. Definitely.

Yes me too, but I think that Ian was wonderful as Gandalf, and Richard was wonderful as Dumbledore so I say why switch them and mess it up?

I agree, Ian IS Gandalf, no question about it. He looks the part(Wears the hat well), sounds the part, and acts so totally convincingly. And then there is just something about him... ... it just feels RIGHT *continues hunting for just a regular emoticon*

Richard Harris could probably have pulled it off, but Ian had that look in his eyes which was all Gandalf.
I loved RH in the stage production of Camelot. (Didn't care for the movie. Guinivere reminded me of a hippie. LOL!)

I've thought of that too. He's an amazing actor and I cried knowing his talent had died to this world. But he'll still always be a favorite of mine.
