Name of Book: The Hour of Twilight

Genre: Hmm..Something of a fanstasy.

When Started: I could say roughly half a year ago, but I've been rather stuck lately.

Rating(G, PG, etc.): Welll. It has a bit of fighting in it, although nothing gory.

Summary: In a land being overrun by poverty, sickness, war, and traitors within, the lives of four young people will be changed forever. To save their country, they will fight ceaseless battles for victory. Each has a different life they know nothing of, a new secret about themself they will uncover at every turn. They must work together to cure their world. There's only one problem: they haven't met.

Actually, I'm incredibly stuck. I can't get anywhere with it. Any suggestions on motivation?

Maybe don't write it all chronologically. So if you are stuck for what happens next, write about what happens later. That way, you know what you are aiming for.
Make a list of all the information that has to come to light in the next 'bit'. Then you can start planning how that information is uncovered.
Try and come up with subplots that sort of give you a little tension and get you over "the next bit". (I have one where my main character is worried by a letter from her brother)
I can't think of much more... not without knowing how much you've written and so on. I hope it helps!

I don't like the sound of that. I hope that's not a problem for anyone here. That would be horrible for someone to steal someone else's ideas!

I'm writing a screenplay. I like it because detail will be visual and the actors will add their flair. The characters and a deep storyline are the most important to me. My story changes everytime my life does. I can only hope that you see my story one day...If I get anywhere farther than my laptop I will be sure to let you guys know.

Yes, Belowen, I'd love to hear about it if/when you manage to get your screenplay off your laptop! :) What sort of genre are you writing?

Enyalië, I'm glad that helps! :)

I'm happy to post stuff I have written because I know it's still in the drafting stage, and I'm only posting a small part of the whole - and I know that feedback can be good. It's a risk you have to take, I know, but I think the risk is small.
I think A-U is fairly safe for that sort of stuff. I can't be positive, of course. Just while we are touching on that, if you think someone is stealing your stuff, please let the mods know.

I'm putting Autumnd Dancer away for a bit. I'm totally stuck, and sometimes, if I'm stuck, I start sometihng new and that gets me in shape for picking up what I left behind.

Name of Book: Wintersong

Genre: Fantasy, and some romance

When Started: About a week ago :-)

Rating(G, PG, etc.): PG...I think. It depends on where the story runs to.

Summary: Winter Sapphire, the young princess of Lamereay, dosen't want the life she knows. Having lived her life with a number of sad occasions, Winter just wants to marry Natayen, a young knight she has known since childhood. However, her father and stepmother both disappear, and in order for the king's plans for his daughter to take effect, Natayen is sent with 4 others to make a peace with a colony of dragons in the mountains, While he is away, the king introduces Winter to another man. At first, Winter despises hime. But then her feelings for him grow. And then, a betrayal that threatens Lamereay, the kingdom, and Winter's own life...

Classic story, with a bunch of twists.

EDIT:

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I would really really like to get this published someday, after I finish it.

Yes that's true... and however I agree with the lower post that sometimes the fead back is worth the risk, and this I think is a fairly safe place it is always a posibility that I think should be kept in mind.

Yes, I do agree. But in some cases if your work is exeptionaly good and omone steals it, writes a book with it, and gets published... then you have lost the opertunity (due to the complicated copywrite laws) to write your book. You would have to change SO much.

However, if you are not intending to get it published then it would be nor problem I don't think.

There is a way to keep work, even on the interent, copyrighted, and keep from being stolen.

Tips on Keeping Your Writing From Getting Stolen:

-Copyright all work. Due to copyright laws established at the Berne Convention, anything is copyrighted, and you only have to pay to make it elegible for lawsuits. If you make it, it is opyrighted to you.

Example:
Your Story-cpyright Your Name 2006.

-Make sure the years are up-to-date. The years do not mark how long the copyright lasts, but years (or dates) when the work was changed. For example, I created my website The Light of the Evenstar. As I've edited it in 2006, I would change my copyright from this:

Quote:
Content copyright Megan Schmidt 2005

To this:

Quote:
Content copyright Megan Schmidt 2005-2006

That points out that the work was created in 2005, and was edited in 2006.

-Copyrights don't expire until fifty years afte the author's death, and even then, someone else that you've asked to can then have it in their possesion for copyright. Meaning, legally, no one should be able to take your work until the coyright expires.

-Only post stories in bits. If you post the whole thing, then anyone can take your work, post it somewhere, and have it as theirs, word-for-word for yours. Try to make sense of it, by taking our little sentences here and there.

-If you find someone is taking your work, do the following:
--Contact their host
--Send the person a cease & desist notice
--Find people who can vouch for you if you have to take it further

Those are my handy tips :-)

They band together that eve, and set out in the morning. Not for mercenary business as planned, but for a much more dangerous task. To reclaim the White City(it has an ancient name, but for now it is cliche ridden) from the lord of darkness, Nightshade, an apposing Craigon. Thanks for that copyright stuff, Ellethwen! I didn't know all of that... hm... *thinks*

I don't know if my work is exceptionally good or not - it's hard to determine when you are so wrapped up in it... I've been thinking about the whole copyright thing seriously lately - I have around about 11,000 words of my story currently posted on my website. (I got sick of emailing it to people who wanted to read it...) It sounds kind of scary when I put it like that...
I guess all I can say is that it's only the beginning of my story, and I keep dafts, both hard back (handwritten and typed) and on file. I don't know...

Well, that's certainly a good idea to keep backups. I know what you mean though... it's hard to judge your own work. I really have no idea whether my stuff would sell or not... But I guess if you never try you never know.

Well, I wish you all the best.
