Post subject: | Spur-of-the-moment poem I thought up |
It's not all that great, since I'm not a poet, but I thought that my "namesake" needed a poem to go with him, so I sat down and wrote one(without any Writer's Block, for once). ---- The Last Day Until the end of days, I will remember Like the burning sun in my ancient mind, That final day, which gleams like an ember And is warming, at once ruthless and kind. The sea had tossed us for days on end, ‘til we stood by the hull of our ship ever-white Staring bleakly around, while the waves our ship did near bend. Yet in the bow stood Earendil, with his circlet of light, Unmoved by anything, standing alone as a great king of might. The Silmaril on his brow, brighter than the sun, Lit the way through the dark crowding, With a brilliant white light, not dun, Burning a path through the shadow pressing. The light was on his shining mail reflected, On the hopeless quest we went, by fate were we bound. From his sword the darkness was deflected, By his gaze was a way through shadows found. Almost in despair did we give up to die, When through a brief gap in the dark we deemed Far away, yet closer than home now did lie, The beautiful light from fair Eldamar gleamed. The shadow from the air did depart, while Many white birds soared in the sky. As we approached that oh-so-fair Isle, O’er the waves did our Vingilot fly. The beautiful feel of a breeze in our backs, Set a quick pace towards the time of our life, Which within my memory nothing lacks, A dazzling recollection, free from all strife. The silty white sand ‘neath our hull did give way, As on the shores of Eldamar we beached our ship, And from us departed Earendil, there to stay, With his lady wife, who from Vingilot did skip. Earendil never saw us again, We three who sailed the seas with him, But we see him daily among the stars, The light from the Silmaril never dim. That day has ever in my head been graven, The day when to us was revealed Eldamar dear. Now has the tale of that day been spoken, By one who was present and witness - Aerandir. ------- Any constructive criticism would be very welcome, to help make the poem flow better. |

Lol, thanks, pip&leggyluvr. I meant I'm not that great of a poet....and I rarely write poems, so I never really think of myself as one. |
