I created an "ann-thennath" letter/poem in tribute to The Professor, today. Please, enjoy!

 A Letter to an Icon

My dear Professor, it seems right
to me, to take up pen and write
of how your dreams and vision's skill
did bring to me dreams to fulfill.

You created oh, such a place
with stories high, or falls from grace,
and filled our minds with sounds and sights
like vistas seen from lofty heights,

or pits of horror and despair,
and those who dared, renown found there.
So many others they have seen
but have my visions not, so keen

and shining bright, like fabled blades,
or brooding towers, or haunting shades,
of mighty battles, knights so bold.
In every language these are told,

but I, if sitting under tree,
or in my chair with cups of tea,
can feel my heart fly to the fray,
the proud bold Knight who saves the day

That day that I first heard you read
your stories, when my heart took heed
and longed to follow, my feet upon
"The Road Goes Ever On And On"

For as I sit by home and hearth,
I walk the paths of Middle-earth,
For you showed how the Knight could be
the man the world won't let him be.

In closing now, I say, good Sir,
who caused this poet's dreams to stir,
though never did we meet, you see,
I raise my glass and drink to thee.
