And the highest we've been is the breathless dawn Where the stars and empty sunsets fade There's everything behind us and only one thing ahead But we plunge on Reveling in the days that lead us here Pouring over the future we're here for Forgetting our 'now' Forgetting... Remembering only one thing And living for our one... ...dream... And the highest we've been the highest we've been the breathless dawn the distant dawn the end of hope; but we never had so much not a hope for us, yet we fight along vibrant in our hopelessness remembering.... the highest we've been is the breathless dawn where our first recollections began We've yet to dream an end to our sight But we're still in the midst of the skies A place we'd never stray from A betrayal we would never touch at the breathless dawn ...the highest we've been... And the highest we've been is the grieving dawn where the light and colors swam Mixing our lives with the light Infusing ourselves with the colors Pondering the quiet, incandescent content Run through with shades of black; The deepest ancient wounds The highest we've been was the endless dawn Where we'd give in to another dream... ...and fade... |

Wow, that was a really lovely poem... sad and yet happy.... in a way. Makes you feel a lot of different things. Very good job, dear!

Quote: And the highest we've been is the breathless dawn
An extraordinarily powerful line. It's a sentence that I'll remember for a while, not only for the imagery of twilit flight but also for how you described the dawn as "breathless." The repetition especially drove the point home. Nice originality. |

Oh, thank you! This poem has an interesting, story actually. I wrote a different one with the same first two lines maybe a year ago, only I lost it . For some reason, those lines stuck in my head, and a couple months ago I wrote out a new poem using those lines. I like this one much better anyways. It describes a strange emotion… A sort of happiness, in spite of the fact that there is seemingly nothing in the future to look forward too, a quiet, passive joy just for the beauty of the existence of ourselves as individuals.
Weird, I’m being an optimist in this poem . Most of my other poems are slightly angsty. (Fine, maybe a little more than 'slightly'.) A few of them may find their way on here, though.

Beautiful poem, Forgotten Star! It's so very introspective and emotional. I hope to see more poems of yours in the future!
