first it begins with a poem/prophecy:

Cities plundered

The king of evil comes forth
Whose name is Ancient
Ysamirue, the Mighty guardian

High King is slain
But out of shadowed lord

A full moon was in the sky and a figure clad in robes strode in a magnificent courtyard. His wife approached and said, “Dear Methuselah, you must return to the feast”
“I know my queen, but I am afraid of the rumors from the north” the king said.
“You should not listen to false tales by strange men,” his wife spoke.
“You may be right,” the king muttered
The two went inside the palace and threw open the doors, light streamed out and joyous noises were heard.
Men were drinking mead and eating large cuts of meat, while the women stood by, chatting quietly and attending to the men.
The King stood on a balcony over the massive tables below and announced, “Tonight we celebrate our recent victory over the usurpers across the Great River!” A great cheering came from his subjects as the door at the end of the hall burst open.
The door was thrown open and a warrior appeared holding his side, soaked in rain and blood, falling to his knees
The King shouted, “Help that man!”
Several men crowded around him, and one propped him up then asked “How did this happen to one of the Silver Order?”
The man muttered, “they…they’re coming, they’ve slain the Narician garrison….” The Light in his eyes went dim and he spoke no more.
An uneasy silence settled down on the feast, until it was broken by the king who shouted, “Gather all the fighting men, we go north to Naricia!”
The king’s messengers ran with lanterns to spread the word to all the men in the city while the king was preparing himself for war.
The king, after opening a solid wooden door next to his throne, ascended a winding staircase of dark, moist stone with no torches to light it save the one he carried. The noble came to a solid wooden door, which had a lock the size of an average hand. He pulled out a key and unlocked the door. Inside the walls were covered with tapestries save for the far end of the room, on which shining golden armor was lain, and above it a sword with a blade of shining steel with a handle trimmed in gold.

I love the background world and the suspense. it sounds as if you've already got the entire history and geography of the world sorted out
