The Lord of the Rings: A Poem
(in limerick)

The Fellowship of the Ring
Part I

In the Shire lived Bilbo a hobbit
He had a ring; Gandalf said “Drop it.”
“I’ll give the Ring to Frodo
And now off you go
To the Elves, and don’t try to stop it.”

So Gandalf gave Frodo the Ring
But they found it was an evil thing
In Mt. Doom it was formed
By Sauron of Mordor
And now his henchmen the Ringwraiths were coming

Frodo did what he had to do
Sam, Merry and Pippin came too.
The all ran to Bree
Where they couldn’t be seen
But their safety would end very soon

On Frodo’s finger the ring fell
The hobbits knew all wasn’t well
A cry pierced the night
They all froze in a fright
Something was wrong, they could all tell

Strider took them all and said to them:
“Frodo, you’ve endangered your friends!
You’ve attracted your foes
I’m a Ranger; I’d know
Our stay at this place must now end.”

The five set off and Strider did tell
How, soon they’d give the ring to Elves
Frodo asked: “Where’ll we go?
Our location is known”
To that Strider said: “Rivendell.”

They stopped on a hill and got tired
So the hobbits cooked dinner, with fire
But that showed where they were
And the hobbits were sure
They’d rather be home in the Shire

Soon Ringwraiths surrounded them all
For Strider, the poor hobbits called
He came and they fought
But fine Frodo was not
He had been stabbed and his wound was not small

They rushed to get there in time
While Frodo struggled to survive
Then Arwen came and rode
With Frodo back to her home
And Frodo was healed and just fine.

So Elrond called a Council together
And there was an argument whether
To destroy or use
The ring or to choose
To hide it away, see it never.

They had to destroy the ring
That much was easily seen
But how to be done
This task not so fun
Led everyone to arguing

Frodo said he’d do the task
And then the question was asked
How he’d do it himself
Without friends to help
Him destroy this great evil at last

So Frodo, Merry, Pippin & Sam
Legolas, Gandalf, Gimli and then
Strider (really Aragorn)
And Boromir in Scorn
Stood up and presented a plan

A Fellowship was to be formed
To take the ring to Mordor
They’d help Frodo and said
No matter how full of dread
They’d destroy the ring and the Dark Lord.

ta-da! What do you think? I have way too much time on my hands, right? haha. (I did the movie version...less stuff to have to write about!)

I'm actually attempting to write out each and every part...insane? quite.

so heres FotR Part 2!

Part II

They set off not knowing where
They should go to start for Sauron’s lair
The Caradhas froze them cold
“To Moria we must go”
Said the ringbearer, “If we all dare.”

So inside the mountains they went
But on the door, a riddle of hints
A password that stumped
Gandalf, who with a “Humph!”
Said, “I’m at the last of my wits!”

‘Speak friend and enter,’ it read
Then Frodo walked up and said,
“It’s a riddle! It’s friend!
Our guessing shall end!”
The door opened, into Moria they were led

One by one they entered the mines
But inside there was a sad surprise
Everyone was gone
But before long
They saw bodies, Gimli let out a cry

Gandalf led them all through it
Nobody said, but they knew it:
Evil was about
And without a doubt
It’d get to them soon, nothing to it.

Soon they were attacked by a lot
Of Orcs and trolls and other whatnot
But something worse was to come
Nothing could be done
A balrog was coming, they were caught

They crossed o’er the stairs and the bridge
But Gandalf stayed there on the ridge
The balrog he stopped
But the balrog would not
Go down alone without a fight

He dragged the wizard down too,
They fell down the chasm, what to do?
Now Gandalf was gone
Without him, they were none
A Fellowship of eight was too few.

The hobbits mourned and they cried
But Aragorn said, with a sigh:
“Gandalf is no more
And though he we adored
We’ll have to go on with our plight.”

To Lothlorien they would go
Where the Elves lived in treetop abodes
Celeborn, along with his wife:
Galadriel, Lady of Light
Would counsel them about their foes

So they did what they had planned
But one night Galadriel had
Frodo look into
A Mirror that told you
What might happen, it made Frodo sad

He offered to give up the ring
Galadriel said “No, but I think
You’ll complete this task
It was yours, so don’t ask
Me to take it.” He went back in peace.

They were all given gifts the next day
Then the elves sent them on their way
Downriver they went
But tracking their scent
Was a band of Orcs, heading their way

They got off to stop one night
Then Frodo went off, out of sight
Boromir followed him
And begged Frodo to then
Give him the ring, and they started to fight

Frodo put on the ring and disappeared
And then Boromir sadly feared
He had gone too far
What overcame my heart?
He wondered, and his regret was clear.

Frodo decided to run away
He could not deal with the pain
Of disloyal friends
So now the end
Of his time in the Fellowship came

Meanwhile the Orcs planned their attack
The others wondered why Frodo wasn’t back
The went out to find
The hobbit and chide
Him for going away just like that

But Sam knew where to look for his friend
Frodo was sailing away, and he said:
“Don’t come with me Sam
I must do what I can
To destroy the ring on my own, that’s the end.”

But Sam insisted so they
Continued on without delay
Just them, just the two
Knew what they must do
To get to Mordor and save the day

But back to the six others, who
Were being attacked by orcs with few
Defenses left
You can only guess
What became of their crew

Boromir was slain in the fight
Of Merry and Pippin the others lost sight
They were taken captive
They did not know if
They would ever see those two again

So the remaining three went
In pursuit of their captured friends
Off now they go
To find them, they hope
And thus the Fellowship ends

It's amazing! It's awesome!!! You are a really good limerick-songwriter!

But something tells me you did not read the book..... :)

Anyways, it doesn't matter really! But can you do this for ather Tolkien-stories as well? I'd love to see your version of 'The Hobbit'!
