Shades of yellow, pink, and blue,
Form a tapestry of brilliant hue.
Muted colours swirl together,
A painting high above the heather.
That eternal orb, which at dawn,
Like a lightbulb switches on,
Smiles it's last and disappears,
Not unlike the passing years.
Glowing colours fade to black,
And as I lie upon my back,
Comes a wink, then two and three,
Sweet greetings from the galaxy.
When I was still a little child,
My imagination did run wild,
I thought that God had sewn the earth,
Stitched the seas into their berth.
As He reached down from above,
Fastening Earth with greatest love,
His needle pricked right through the sky,
And there still those holes do lie.
So on a night when all is clear,
And I've said goodnight to those most dear,
I look up to those tiny spaces,
And imagine I see Heavenly spaces.
