The story of a Knight
Prologue
How I got to Middle Earth
It was summer time. It was fearfully hot outside, 102 degrees to be specific. I was outside, just sitting on a rock and thinking about how bored I was. Then, I began to feel dizzy and got a slight headache feeling in my head. Then, I felt weak and all of a sudden….things went black.
When I woke up, things were still black. I was wondering if I had gone blind, when all of a sudden a light appeared and I heard voices. Then, a bright light shone upon my face. A short, thin man dressed in armor and carrying a sword stepped forward into the light.
“What’s this? A trespasser? Who are ye? Are ye a friend to Isildur or a foe?” another man, taller and dressed in the same attire stepped forward and spoke.
“Can’t you see that he’s dazed, Gladdick? He probably couldn’t answer even if he was a friend. Here, hold my torch for me.”
Then the second man picked me up and hoisted me up onto his shoulder. “Let’s take him to Minas Tirith and bring him before Isildur.”
I do not remember the journey, for I must have fallen asleep. For some strange reason, whatever happened between then and now I do not remember. All that I remember now is that I am serving King Isildur in his court as his counselor. Here is my journal and my records of history. I’m sorry I cannot provide more information of the past, but that I cannot recall.
Chapter 1
The Ring
“Leonder!” Isildur the King of Gondor came hurriedly pushing the gate of his throne room open. I, for I am indeed Leonder, stood up at his arrival.
“What news, my king?”
Isildur shook his head.
“The news is bad, my counselor. Sauron grows restless; battle is near. And I will be fighting in it.”
I took a step forward. “And I shall fight beside you, my king,” I said. Isildur shook his head. “You may not fight…” then he stopped short and looked at the sword that hung at my side. “Yes, you may. The battle will come soon, so we must prepare. Tell me, what is your advice?” I knew what the king wanted. He was asking me how he should organize his army. I shook my head and gave him the answer that he wanted.
“I am not a battle commander like you, my King. I am only a counselor, not a chieftain of war. I have never organized an army before, and you are in command, not I.”
The King looked at me with slight suspicion, and then he nodded. “Very well,” he said. “I will tell my men to muster the troops and have them ready to march at daybreak.” He was just about to go out of the door when in came a tall figure dressed in long, grey robes. He looked very old, and carried a stick of knotted wood and wore a tall hat that ended in a point. His staff also signified that he was of the Wizard order.
“Ah, Gandalf!!” exclaimed Isildur. “It is good to see you, especially at such a time as this. Battle is at hand, and I am going to rouse my army. Do you bring news?”
The wizard shook his head. “I come to bring advice for your counselor’s ears only,” he said. Isildur nodded. “I shall be off, then. Shall I expect to see you when I return?”
Gandalf waved his hand in a dismissive way.
“I do not expect you shall, but who knows?” Then the King left and shut the door of the room behind him.
I sat down and motioned to a seat next to me. It was rather awkward at first. I did not know this wizard. I had only heard of him through Isildur once or twice, but other than that he was a complete stranger to me.
“So...” I began. “You bring me advice? I would be glad to hear it.”
I have not yet completed the first chapter.
