I'm a member of the Tolkien Society, and all they posted was what has been known since at least April 2017, that “Beren and Lúthien” will be published on 01 June 2017. I’ve already ordered it. Earlier on, the publishing date was supposed to have been early May 2017, but that got pushed back. Believe me, I’m right at the front of the pack, drooling for the publication …

Well, I will be excited! I am waiting to see how much the delux version costs, though I have a feeling it will be a bit pricy for my liking. It currently won't give a price like the regular version does.

It currently won't give a price like the regular version does. Well, ye-hes, when I pick it up at one of my favorite bookstores where I ordered it, I will be excited too! As for what you call the delux version - *mumble* - the bookstore had three versions which could be ordered, all hardcover. I’m guessing they were the HarperCollins (Brit) version, the Houghton Mifflin (US) version, both for around 25 Euros – and then some thingy for over 90 Euros. That’s the steepest surcharge I have ever seen for any (including LoTR anniversary special editions) Middle-earth book. Of course, being very badly a completist, I may waste money on what should be a coffee-table version – or whatever …

Yikes! Yeah, that would probably be it. I suspect it will be comparable in in US dollars. The regular hardcover books are selling for about $20 US

I'm thinking of getting a wolfhound too.

Elthir wrote: ... I'm thinking of getting a wolfhound too. Urk. You do know that these pooches are basically huge, scruffy-haired versions of Greyhounds??? They need a L O T of exercise. It's been eleven years ago, but I saw an Irish Wolfhound, perhaps not fully grown, jogging, with its buddy, a Labrador Retriever, looking vaguely like Speedy Gonzales or the Road Runner spinning its wheels (owner of both was on some sort of bi-cycle – I forget if with or without motor). Do you compete in the Hawaii Ironman triathlon, or something?

I wasn't serious there, but in the past we've considered getting an Irish Wolfhound or two.
We did the research, talked to owners, even had one seller come check out our property to make sure it was suitable. We didn't get one at the time, though.

I had bullmastiffs for two decades and I adore the breed. Unfortunately their life spans aren't very long, and I got tired of having to put them to sleep before they reached 10 years of age. I had one female live 11 years but the others all died between 6 and 9 years.
Irish wolfhounds have 6-10 life spans which is something people have to consider when purchasing one.

Looking at Alan Lee’s picture of Beren, Lúthien and Huan on the cover, Huan’s back is at least as high as Beren’s shoulder. Since it’s very unlikely that Beren was say five feet tall, this puts Huan in horse territory (though not Shire Horses ). What does it take to feed him??? But then, as a hound of Valinor, who knows what else besides titanic sizes separates him from mortal-world dogs.

And the lifespan issue was the reason we ended up not getting one "ES"... if I may call you that I checked out some books and noted the average lifespan -- a breeder explained the matter for us too, including that she had had some Irish Wolfhounds live well past the average, but... we said we would think about it, still a bit reluctant after finding this out... ... and then my wife found a cat, and the Irish Wolfhound idea sort of got pushed aside then, and mostly forgotten.
