In my opinion one of the best, and if not the best story in Silm. Tragedy, sadness, hope, irony......all mixed into one! Fantastic!

I wanted to cry when I read it! Poor Hurin! How miserable he must have been!
Have you ever read it in poetic form? I think it is in the Lays of Lethien. LOOONG and sad!!! Don't quote me on that though, it being in the Lays of Lethien that is. It's been to long since I read it.

No, Lethian. *runs to check book cover* I was in error. It was the Lay of Lethien that is about the silmarils and Beren and Luthien and all that jazz. The book it is in is called the Lays of Beleriand. In "The Lays of Beleriand" the tale of Hurin and all that is called "The Lay of the Children of Hurin".
Too much history of too many worlds and your mind can get confused!

I could've sworn it was the Lay of Luthien.

Read the story, Elwing! I don't want to give it all away. But if you still want to know...
Turin is separated from his mother and sister when he is young. He goes to live with the Elves, but for one reason or another he leaves several years later. At this time, his mother and sister, Nienor, are able to go to the Elves to look for him, but he is gone. As I recall, the mother and sister go after him (that's a story in itself, but I won't get into it) and are ambushed by Glaurung the dragon. Nienor is bewitched and forgets all that she knows about herself; she runs into the wilderness, terrified. Turin then finds her and brings her to the place he is living in at the time...over the course of months, they fall in love. Nienor doesn't remember anything about herself, so neither of them know that they are siblings.
Now, go find that book and read the story. Very good.

I've read the story, but not since a couple of months ago, then everyone was talking about Turin, then moving on, then coming back to Turin........Sorry, but I got confused is all. I remember the story, but I just got lost.

I think I understand what ya mean; because there was a bit of conversation about Lúthien & Beren and then we came back to Narn ... Think so.

I think its probably one of the most tragic tales of middle-earth. Poor Turin and Nienor. Some people are just born unlucky. I personally pity Beleg most...

Oh, it's terrible when Turin kills his best friend! That's such an awful part of the story.

Nienor sounds like a very beautiful woman when you read the story.
