Beleg really does sound like a guy's name. If it wasn't for his name, he'd be an awesome character, but I have never gotten over the problem of being unable to imagine an elf with a name like that.
Luthíen is so the coolest female character Tolkien thought up, though Galadriel and Arwen are pretty close behind (well, not pretty close, but closer than Eowyn).

it's true that luthien's deed to make sauron surrender and set morgoth asleep
was way better than killing a ringwraith but eowyn wasnt an elf with maia blood so it would be unfair saying she is not as brave as luthien or sth like that.

For me Doriath's best elf is Beleg, because he was so loyal to Túrin and helped him so much even though Túrin didn't always act the way Beleg would have liked it.

It says in teh book that he saw the likeness of Hurin in Turin. Hurin at the nirnaeth did a seriously good deed for the eldar, so I suppose the elves would try to repay his deed and Turin an dbeleg had stuff in common as well.

Feanor is the best. and I liked Aredhel a lot too. and my favorite from Doriath would be Thingol maybe. or no wait! Beleg.. though, his death was very depressing and tragic.

......Finrod Felagund was the best, because he gave up his kingdom and life on what seemed a hopeless quest, simply because Beren wouldn't be able to do it alone.
After him, though, comes Glorfindel of the Golden Flower, Fingon, Fingolfin, Maglor, Ecthelion of the Fountain, Mablung of the Heavy Hand, and so on and so forth.

Fingolfin and ecthelion lower that Glorfindel? Fingolfin fought with morgoth and wounded him and ecthelion killed loads of enemies and killed Gothmog. Thats a bit wierd. And why maglor?

Oops...I was thinking "favorite" instead of "best."
In that case, it's still Finrod as the first one, but then Fingolfin, since he fought Morgoth. Glorfindel of the Golden Flower is still higher than Ecthelion of the Fountain, because while I think they are both incredibly awesome, Ecthelion basically tripped Gothmog into the Fountain, since he had no use of either arm, and he killed lots of orcs, whereas Glorfindel defeated his Balrog through skill, and still killed loads of Balrogs.
After them come Fingon, Maglor, Elu Thingol, Dior Aranel, and Mablung of the Heavy Hand.
Oooh...this isn't specifically male elves. That puts Lúthien as second-best, after Finrod.

ecthelions shield arm was damaged. the other was fine and he stabbed gothmog unless IM mistaken. And he killed lots of balrogs. You would struggle to fight a balrog conventially without a shield, especially one like Gothmog. Also, Ecthelion knew he would die, whereas glorfindel just got dragged into the chasm.Harder going into a fight you cant win.

I don't recall him stabbing Gothmog (well, he stabbed him with his helmet spike, but not with his sword, and he didn't use his arm to do it), but perhaps you're right.
However, I think that if I knew I was going to die anyways, it would be easier for me to go into a fight that I knew I couldn't survive. Glorfindel could have survived, but the Balrog dragged him over the precipice by his hair.
And according to The Book of Lost Tales II, Ecthelion killed three balrogs besides Gothmog, while Tuor killed five. I don't remember if it mentioned anything about Glorfindel.
