I like all of his books. Although I liked Farmer Giles of Ham and Smith of Wootton Major, especially the latter. The LotR is great too, but I don't just pick it up and read it casually like I do the other ones. The Hobbit is great too..argh! Too many choices! I liked Smith of Wootton Major because it was different, let's say that.

It would be unfair that I choose. However, saying I had no choice in the matter, it would have been the Silmarillion up till now. Now I'd say the Book of Lost Tales (Part 1 and 2 constituting, theoretically, 1 book, however published as 2 for the length of Christophers observations and commentary). I just find this 'original Silmarillion' a more enjoyable read, besides- it has a narative structure, unlike the 'here and there and everywhere' approach of the Silmarillion. And it being a mythology indefinately lodged in our world makes it so much more interesting. If this were between the 3 of the Lord of the Rings books-The Two Towers. But again, I love them all equally .
