Nope, it's never too late. We're beginning chapt. 11 now, so you can just jump in there in you want and if you're not familiar with it, just post and I'm sure one of us at least will give you a summary of what's happened in The Hobbit so far.
Otherwise you can try to catch up by reading the past chapters and checking out our other discussions (there are links on the first page of this thread.)

Hello everyone . I have fell so well behind. I hope I am still part of this reading group . I am just to the point where Bilbo gets really upset when Thorain tells the group ( after they and Bilbo barge in to his home ;he and his fellow dwarfmen ask for dinner ~ That part was hillarious. I know they meant well) that they may not return home from their journey. I hope I can catch up. Chapter 11? I will try and just read that chapter. I hope I make sense above. I am feeling a little underneath the weather today (head cold)
