5-10 hours? That's pretty sweet. What's your (approximate) words-per-minute reading speed?

Lol, Aerlinn. Yeah, I do. Roughly. It's somewhere around 550 words per minute, and that's when I go slower so as to have 100% comprehension. If I just want to read through something but I don't necessarily care about comprehending it.....it's a lot faster, but doesn't really count.

The most recent time I read it, it took me about... 5 days, I think, to do the whole thing. That was probably reading around 2 1/2 hours per day, because if I read for a while it's somewhere between 3 and 5 PM.

I have absolutely no clue. I never checked. I just read extremely fast.

TheThain, if I sat down and read through it in one go, and I wasn't going painstakingly slow and reading other books 'at the same time', I could read all three in one day.
That's really awesome, Freya. Very, very cool.

It took me about 14 years to finish the trilogy . Actually, I started the books in fourth grade and *loved* them, but a friends mom convinced me they were evil . I've since, of course, changed my mind .
I read them in under 5 days for a college class though, so I've made up for it !

I think it took me about two years to read the trilogy and the Silmarillion. I started reading LotR when the movies came out and it had to grow on me before I started to like them - but then they swallowed me and I was hooked!
Inkling, may I ask in what way LotR can be evil, I'm just curios.

^My mother says that some people don't understand that you can just read a story and take it for that - a story. Apparently they take everything seriously and they think all fantasy is of the devil or something. Doesn't sound like much fun to me.

Thank you for the answers. I thought it would be along those lines but I wondered it because it is a known fact that Tolkien was a Catholic and many people find Christian (and other religious) parallels in the books.

A day including appendixes - that's with eating, dog walks etc. In total it's about 7-8 hours reading time....

It took me a week when I read Lord of the Rings for the first time. Second time was just as fast. I had to read it again after I had read the last page. So two week in October 2001 and I had read it twice. When February 2002 rolled around I was reading it for the fourth time.

The most recent time I read it? (Which was about 6 years ago ) I think two months. I'm not sure.
I'm sure if I had the time to just sit down and spend all my time reading it...it'd take a couple days. Not sure though. I need to get on that...reading it again, that is.
