The first time I read it [at age 11] it took me about 6 months to read the entire trilogy, plus the appendices in LotR. This was probably due to my short attention span...
Then I began rereading them when I was 14 and I found a new love and understanding for the books. That time around it only took me a week and half.

I've read all three in a week. Though that was summer and I basically had nothing to do except go on the computer and read.

it took me over a year. (not because i wasn't interested in the book i might add!) but because i actually lost my copy of the fellowship when i was in the middle of it and i then got distracted by otherr books (harry potter and alex rider for instance) so i never actually found the book until 6 months later.

The first time I read it, I think I was able to finish it in six days. One day for each 'book', since my copy was divided into two books per novel.

Here's a surprise (probably) to most of you. I first read the books after I saw the first movie. I took about 5 weeks, cause I didn't own a copy of ROTK. Now I read it once or twice a year, and own a nice hardcover complete addition, and the leatherbound anniversary addition, which I've only opened, and not read. I'm a late bloomer to Tolkein, and have since read The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion, plus am studying Quenya, Dwarf Ruins and Sindarin. Oh and when I say I'm a late bloomer it's because I am now (just recently) over 40.

Well, When I first read it at age 10, it took me about a year! But the fellowship took 10 months because I put it down, but then I read The Two Towers in a week and ROTK in two weeks. But now it takes me about a months time total at age 16. :-D

As a matter of fact, I've just started it again. I always have to be reading something, and even though I 've already read it twice this year. I'm a picky reader, so my options are limited.

Took me about two weeks. I whined my parents into lending me money to but a hardback one, with all Alan Lee's illustrations and maps :D Never put it down, apart from to re-enact scences with the help of my noble steed (my dog) heh heh...:P

*sighs*

So far I've got you all beat. The first time I read it in three days, less if you cut out the time I spent doing other stuff (like sleeping and eating and playing with friends), so...probably closer to a day and a half. Anyways, I was 11 at the time, and in the four years since then, I've read it 22 more times, though now I'm only reading it three or four times per year.

I took me forever to read all 3 books (about 9 months) because I mostly jsut read it a night because when I brought it to school people made fun of me and tried to steal(that was only last year belive it or not). But I just kept remembering what the the New York times said "The world is divided into to 2 tyoes of people, people that have read the lord of the rings and people who say they are going to read it". I want to be one that already had.

About 2 months, because I had to check them out of the library seperately and we were on vacation a lot so I didn't have that much time to read; but the second time it took 2 weeks for the whole trilogy.
