I can see where the casual fan would find it boring. It is a history text without a real beginning and end like a normal book. I must admit that I tend to skim for certain stories, like Beren and Luthien, and skip other ones.

It is not boring to LotR geeks. I think that it may well be boring to people who aren't all that interested, but to people like me who love all things LotR it is fascinating.

I, too, understand how people can find it boring - and I don't blame them! Unfortunately it's either you like it, or don't. But don't let someone else make decisions for you, read it yourself and come up with a conclusion.

Let's just say this. At times, it's like reading a King James Bible. But, it's my all time favorite book. Why? Because it leaves so much to the imagination while also having so much detail! I must warn you, however, the beginning is extremely boring. There's a little cliffs notes-esque thing after the Valaquenta that I would suggest reading if you don't want to read the whole creation story.

I can understand why people may find it boring as I myself do to a degree.
However its not boring becuase lack of interest its boring beucase of its sheer volume.
If your looking for a story-book this is not for you. If you looking for a way of expanding on Tolkien Lore or your after a challenging book then it fulfills both requirements.

I think the word boring has being severely overused. You may not find something interesting for different reasons. As I said before in "The Council of Elrond" thread, you may not be interested in something because you don't understand [it happens], or because you might want to know different information than what you are reading. Sometime's you are just distracted.
All I can say is that the Silm is definitely not boring, but there are things that might interest you more than others.

Well it would get boring if you read it carefully for the first time but if you read it over and actually remember what you've read and re-run it in your head as you go along ... then it's actually quite an interesting book

I personally never found the Sil boring, although younger people may have a harder time reading it. It is more a history book than it is a story
