If you could rename Frodo Baggins, or any other Lord of the Characters what woiuld you rename them and why, or do you believe they suit their names?

I think i would probably keep all of the names because i think they suit each character so well but i'm just curious to see what you guys think :)

All of the LotR characters suit their names perfectly, in my opinion. At any rate, the names are so ingrained in my head, I wouldn't even think of changing them.

I know lol.

I'm just wondering whether people think that the charcters could have better names to suit there personalities, even if they are only extra names e.g. Samwise the Brave you know...

What is it you like about the names?

I dont think I would change any of the names. And I looove Frodos! I dont know. I think it just sounds really cute and fits him really well. And after seeing the movies and reading the books you just kinda get that image of them stuck in your head with those names. So its kinda hard to think of them with a new one :P

Yeah, I think it's just that we couldn't think of them very well if they had any other name.

I'd keep their names the same.

I wouldn't change any of their names. Everyone suits their names and I couldn't imagine any of them with another name. :)

I wouldn't change their names. Tolkien had an extended naming process, he didn't just make up a name out of nothing. Especially Frodo's (I think...) name, he worked long on. So the names really go with the characters, and other names, I think, would be... weird (lol, couldn't find any other suiting word).
:)

Yes i know exactly what you mean. I particularly love Frodo's name too and Aragorn's. I love all the names really and i know about the fact Tolkien worked hard in order to establish well-suited names for the characters.

No I was just curious as to whether there were any ways you would alter the names but clearly not :)

if i didn't knew them i would search for elvish names which are suited because of the meaning. but this wouldn't be fit for hobbits for example so i don't really know. i'm no good at imagining names.

I could never imagine them as anyone else, a different name would make them all completely different people in a way.

I could imagine Merry with another name for instance... something like Kalimac Brandagamba. Or Sam being called Banazîr, for another example ;-)

These are their names as actually spoken in Middle-earth (no one said 'Samwise' at the time, for example), according to Tolkien's conceit.
